My heart sped up in my chest. I was sure that statement wasn't what he meant it to be. We were friends; at least I was pretty sure we were. Friends with benefits, although we hadn't slept together yet, but still friends.

So why was he always saying things like that? Things that could have been interpreted as romantic if only we were different people.

"... secretary?" he asked. I blinked.

"What?"

His eyes flickered at me. "I said, did you always want to work as a secretary?"

I shook my head. "No." I tucked a lock of hair behind my ear. "It's weird actually. I never wanted to be a secretary, but I honestly can't imagine myself doing anything else. I just like doing things that matter. Scheduling meetings, analyzing sales reports, everything. It just makes me feel really important. Like I'm part of something, you know?"

"So if you could have any other job in the world, you wouldn't know what to choose?"

"I don't think so." I ran my index finger along the hard lines of his hand. "What about you? What would you choose?"

"Maybe a firefighter."

I glanced up at him in surprise. "You would want to be a firefighter?"

"I've always thought firefighters were cool. Saving people's lives. It doesn't get better than that."

"That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard." I paused and looked at him mischievously. I carried his large palm up to my mouth. Slowly, I took his index finger between my lips and sucked on it. "It's also the hottest."

He gulped visibly and his grip on the steering wheel tightened. "You shouldn't do things like that while I'm driving."

"Exactly. You're driving. Which means I can do whatever I want."

I undid the top buttons of my shirt. The simple black bra I had on wasn't anything seductive but the way Alexander's eyes kept flitting toward me made me feel like the sexiest person in the world.

"Careful," I teased. "You're driving."

I placed his hand on my chest and used it to gently massage my breast. He groaned at the same time I let out a moan of pleasure.

Alexander swerved the car left and off the side of the road. He looked at me with dark, lust-filled eyes. "You're kind of crazy, do you know that?"

"You'd be the first to say so. I'm usually calm." I shrugged. "You just bring it out of me, I guess."

He leaned across the console and pressed his lips to mine. I opened my mouth against his instantly.

He pressed a kiss to my neck and I shuddered. When his hands came to rest on the bare skin of my stomach and he kissed my neck again, that strange feeling from earlier returned. Except this time, it came with a name.

Love.

Chapter Eight Alexander

It was a little past seven when I arrived at the office. I climbed out of my car and made my way to the company building.

Usually, I'd come to work by eight. I'd arrived earlier because of an important meeting that was to be held. I fiddled with the button of my suit jacket as I walked. I also came earlier because I had a surprise for Sophia.

When I walked in the building, I spotted Sophia. Her hair was pushed behind her ears, and she was glancing around. Her lavender blouse and black slacks accentuated her curves.

In her hand was a paper bag and two cups of coffee. Her purse was slung on her shoulder. As if able to detect that someone was watching her, she looked around.

Our eyes locked. She offered me a small smile and began walking towards me. I strode towards her and we met in the middle of the parking lot.

"Good morning." I rolled my finger on the button of my jacket. "You're here early. You usually don't show up until eight. It's not even seven-thirty yet."

"I had to get up early so I could catch the six o'clock bus."
