"I'm glad you like them."

"How could I not? They're beautiful. Thank you for this." Her gaze shifted from the flowers to the chocolate and the keys on top.

She grabbed the keys and screamed with excitement. She jumped up in my arms and wrapped her legs around me. “Thank you, Alexander! You’re so sweet! I can’t believe you did this for me!”

She was obviously so excited as she covered my face in kisses. I chuckled and set her down, taking her hand in mine. I rubbed my thumb against the back of her palm, and she squeezed my hand slightly. "Come on. Let me show it to you.”

She let me lead her back down the elevator. Excitement radiated from her, but she said nothing as we stood in the elevator.

We weaved through the few other cars in the parking lot, and walked until we reached the end of the large space.

There, shining in the early morning sun, was a deep blue Mercedes Maybach. With a color reminiscent of the vast ocean and its sleek design, it was easily the most attractive thing in sight. On the hood of the car was a large, red bow.

"Oh my God, I love it!" Her eyes were wide in disbelief, and she used a hand to cover her mouth. In an almost dreamlike state, she ran her other hand along the glistening body of the car. "It's beautiful."

I smiled as I watched her. "Go in. Check it out."

Slowly, as if still unsure of my words, Sophia unlocked the car and got inside. Her eyes widened even more. The inside was just as impressive as the outside. Supple leather seats, polished wood accents, and intricate stitching. She sank into the soft driver’s seat with a contented sigh.

"It’s so comfortable," she told me. I stood beside her. Her eyes were alight as she took in the interior.

Sophia turned on the car and immediately the engine revved to life with a powerful purr. She turned it off again and then turned it on. "Thank you, Alexander.”

I leaned against the top of the car, staring down at her. "Now you never have to take the bus again."

A playful pout took over her face. "I feel kind of embarrassed about my gift. I got you breakfast from a coffee shop, and you got me a brand-new car." She let out a small giggle. "That hardly seems fair."

"Are you kidding me?" I reached my hand down and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. My hand lingered against her cheek. "I love bagels and coffee. Hands down the best thing anyone's ever gotten me."

She rolled her eyes, although she pressed her face into the warmth of my palm. "Ha ha."

"I'm serious," I told her. "I love it, especially because it came from you. It doesn't matter what you give me, Sophia. I'll love it because it came from you."

She covered my hand with hers and pressed her lips to my palm. I shivered from the feeling of her soft mouth.

Sophia with her big heart and gentle words. Her soft brown hair and kind eyes. The way she made me feel infinitely better when my father got me upset. The way she cared for a homeless cat when she herself was getting drenched in the rain. Her wide smiles and melodic laughs.

“I still can't believe you got me a car." She took my face into her hands and gazed into my eyes. "Thank you so much for this."

I shrugged. "It's nothing."

"It's really not." She leaned up and touched her lips to mine. It was barely a kiss, more of a soft brush of lips but it still made me shudder.

My hands came to her waist, and I pulled her closer. A laugh escaped her, and the infectious sound made me chuckle as well.

She wrapped her arms around my shoulders and buried her head in the crook of my neck. "It's a really thoughtful gift. Thank you."

I smiled. "You're welcome." My hold on her tightened and I sighed. There was something magical about Sophia and I felt lucky that I got to enjoy it. Hopefully, I'd experience it for the rest of my life.

"We should head in," she said. Her eyes dipped down between us and then back up to my face.

I held her gaze. Her beautiful blue eyes shone with joy. She was perfect, every single thing about her. "Thank you again for the breakfast."

"Of course. I hope you enjoy it."

"I will."

I'd never been a large fan of bagels or cinnamon buns, but there was something particularly sweet about the ones I ate that morning. Something that kept me grinning like an idiot hours after I'd eaten it.
