"Love you too." I hung up and dropped my phone on my desk.

A figure stepped into the hallway, and I glanced up. I froze. It had been weeks since I'd seen him, but I would never forget a face like his. Standing in front of me was none other than Alexander.

I stood up. "Alexander? What are you doing here?"

"Good morning, Miss Bennett. I'm Alexander Haynes." He smiled that same devilish grin as before and my knees went weak. I held onto the edge of the desk. "Your new boss."

My eyes widened in surprise. My boss. The incredibly sexy man I'd met at the coffee house, and the brother of my ex-boyfriend, was going to be my new boss.

Although I knew I shouldn't have felt excited at the discovery, the pulsing in my ears got louder and it was a struggle to keep the smile off my face.

Perhaps I would end up screwing around with Chris's brother. It would be good revenge, and I'd have a damn good time as I did it.

My gaze trailed over his body, now dressed in a wine-red three-piece suit. His broad shoulders were framed by the crisp suit jacket, and the perfectly tapered pants elongated his already long legs. His hair was as perfect as it had been the first day we met, with the bright ceiling lights in the hallway shining on the gel applied to his thick brown hair.

My lips tugged upwards. I'd definitely have a good time while I did it.

Before I could utter a response, a young woman walked in through the hallway.

She looked about my age with straight black hair and a slim face. There was a silver tablet in her hands. She nodded to Alexander.

"Good morning, sir." She turned to me and offered me a small smile. "Good morning, Miss Bennett. My name is Amelia, and I work in HR. I'll be the one to show you around the office and introduce you to the various departments."

"Nice to meet you, Amelia." I turned back to my new boss. "And it's nice to see you again, Mr. Haynes. I look forward to working with you."

"Me too," he agreed. "I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it." He tapped a finger on one of his suit buttons and then nodded to Amelia. "I trust you'll treat Miss Bennett well, Amelia."

"Of course, Mr. Haynes."

"That's good to hear." Another nod, this time to me. "Welcome to Haynes Enterprises. I'm sure you're going to enjoy your time here. If you'll excuse me, ladies, I have to go work."

He turned and then walked into his office without another glance backward.

Amelia tapped at her tablet for a few moments.

"There's a report on how we did on the market within the past six months. You need to get it from the sales department, along with the sales report from last year. Mr. Haynes wants them arranged in order of highest sales. He also wants it before the end of the day."

She glanced up at me. "I'll show you the various departments in the company and introduce you to your new co-workers. After that, you can begin your first task of the day. Do you think you can handle it?"

"I can definitely handle it."

"For all of our sakes, I hope you can. Mr. Haynes expects nothing but the best from his employees. Especially his secretary." She gestured to the hallway. "Now why don't we begin our tour?"

Chapter Two Alexander

I sat in my office, various business proposals scattered about on my desk. I looked over the one in my hand, but nothing I read stuck. This would be the third time I had tried reading a proposal with zero progress.

I threw the document down on my desk in frustration. I couldn't concentrate.

I spun around in my chair and gazed out of the floor-to-ceiling glass walls. My office was on the top floor of the building, and it provided me with a clear view of the city. The shining sun, the people moving about on the road who looked like ants, and the numerous other buildings.

From up here, I was deaf to the bustle of the city. The only thing that could be heard were the songs of the birds as they swooped around each other in the vast, light blue sky.

It was a beautiful day, but I couldn’t for the life of me be productive. My mind had been in the clouds ever since this morning, ever since I saw Sophia again. I couldn't get her out of my thoughts.

I closed my eyes, and leaned back in my chair, with a deep sigh. Her very essence was locked into my brain.

Her shiny, dark brown hair framed her heart-shaped face perfectly. Her wide blue eyes made her appear innocent, even though the sensual curve of her mouth told a completely different story. The tiny, perfect nose that made her look more graceful.
