"Hey," I protested, smacking her arm gently. "I just had a really bad breakup. I deserve this."

"True. Although I am serious about needing to sleep with someone." Her eyes danced around the room. "Is there anyone here that looks even remotely bang-able?"

"First of all, bang-able is not a word."

"It's definitely a word. I've checked."

"And secondly, this is a restaurant, not a bar or a club. Nobody has a one-night stand with someone they meet in a place like this." I looked pointedly out the large window beside us. "Especially not at this time of the day."

"You're right." She snapped her fingers. "We need to go to a bar."

I glanced at my watch and groaned. It was almost eight. "Maybe another time."

I pulled out my purse and dropped a few bills on the table. "Breakfast is on me. You're paying for lunch next time." I stood up, removed my work blazer from the back of my seat, and then tugged it on. I gulped down the rest of my coffee and then grabbed my purse. "I have to get to work. I'll see you later. Love you."

"Love you too."

I pushed out of the bistro doors and then made my way to my small silver hatchback. Dropping my purse in the passenger seat, I fed the key into the ignition, and then tried to start the car but it didn't work. I tried again, still no luck.

"Come on, work. I just got you back from the mechanic." The car faltered a bit before it finally came alive. "Thank God."

My drive to the office was quick, and in no time I found myself seated at my desk and going over Alexander's schedule for the day.

My phone rang beside me not long after. Lost in the world of charts, sales, and potential business associates, I picked up the call without checking the caller ID.

"I didn't think you would pick up." The voice made me freeze. The document I was currently going over fell from my hand. Chris.

"I never would have answered if I knew it was you."

"I'm glad you did. I went to your office, but you weren't there. Apparently, you quit a few days ago. Would you mind telling me where you work now?"

"Why would I do that?"

"So, I can come and see you. To kiss you and tell you how much I miss you."

"What do you want, Chris? Why are you really calling me?" He was silent for a while.

"I'm sorry. I regret what I did, Phia. Really, I do. It should have never happened."

"What exactly do you regret? Cheating on me? Calling me 'too much?’ Gaslighting me? Which one is it, Chris?"

"Everything. All of it. I miss you, So. I want us to get back together."

"Oh, please. Give me a break." I laughed sardonically. "And you must consider me an idiot. Do you think, for one second, that I'm gonna take you back after all the shit you did?"

"Come on, I love you. She meant nothing to me. It was a one-time thing."

"You and I both know that wasn't the first time you cheated on me. The underwear I always found lying around, the lipstick stains on your shirt, the perfume you always smelled like. I was stupid to ignore all the signs, but I'm not going to do that anymore."

"None of them meant anything to me. You're the only one I care about."

"You really do think I'm an idiot, don't you?" I let out a bitter scoff. "I'm glad you cheated. I'm glad I was finally able to see the piece of shit that you are."

"Don't say that. I know you don't mean it. Remember all the good times we had. That was real for me. I know it was for you too. Don't act like you don't care about me. Like you've forgotten me because I know for a fact that you haven't."

I snorted. "Get over yourself, Chris. Just how special do you think you are? I haven't thought about you in weeks." I've been way too busy daydreaming about your more attractive brother, I wanted to add, but I held back.

"You're lying. I know you, Phia."
