Her expressionsobered and she almost didn't ask the question.

"Did you bringher here?"

"No." Heanswered immediately. "We only bought it recently."

"Is that theonly reason for it?"

"We almost neverwent to hotels, unless it was overseas. Let's get you up.“ Histone had become brisk, telling her he was through discussing thatparticular topic. Odette hated that her shadow was still betweenthem.

He waited for her torinse her mouth out before carrying her to the bed. The sheets hadbeen turned down and the pillows fluffed. "I’m going tocall down for them to bring the soup up."

She nodded and closedher eyes briefly. The vomiting had unsettled her and made her feel asif she’d run a marathon. She also had the feeling she wassuffering from jet lag. She heard him murmuring on the phone, butkept her eyes closed when she felt the bed move.

“They’llbe here shortly." Her eyes flew open when he stroked her cheek."I feel guilty."

"What for?"

"What you’regoing through. I feel helpless too."

"You’rehere and it's mine to bear. I agreed to do this, remember?"

He nodded. "How’sthe stomach?"

"Empty."She smiled at him. "I’m fine, Dion. I usually am after Iget rid of everything. I guess the little sucker wants me to startover."

"What if it's agirl?"

"What of it?"

"I want a son,an heir."

"If it's a girl,we’ll start over."

"I’m notsure I can put you through this again."
