I shrug. “Don’t ask.”

He laughs, shaking his head in relief. “Alright, I won’t.”

“Do you have a… boyfriend waiting for you at home?”

Wow, he is interested. I don’t believe it.

“I’m single,” I say with a giddy little smile. “How about you?”

He locks eyes on me, unable to hide his excitement. “I’m single too.”

The forest heats up as we maintain some direct eye contact. We only pull away when Otter raises her head from the creek and makes a weird burping sound.

Aiden chuckles as he walks over and pets her neck. “Slow down, girl. We can take as long as you want.”

He’s got his eyes on the horse and I have my eyes on him. They’re roaming all over his muscular frame as I wonder what it would be like to have him lying on top of me, pressing his weight down onto me, making me moan.

The swirling in my core heads between my legs as I shamelessly stare at his big tattooed arms that are looking so tantalizing as he pets the horse.

All sorts of new unfamiliar feelings are blossoming inside of me. I’ve been so focused on competing that I’ve never made time for a boyfriend. It also didn’t help that I’ve been immersed in an all-girls environment for years.

Front and back walkovers on balance beams took the place of going on dates, I perfected backflips instead of kissing skills, and I spent my free time dreaming of holding up a medal rather than dreaming of holding some guy’s hand.

I made no time for any of it.

Crushes and desire and that whole world of boys was only a distraction. A waste of time. I shut it out and shut it down.

I wasn’t going to let some boy get in the way of my dreams.

And it’s not like I met any that made me reconsider my stance. All the boys in school were just that—boys.

They weren’t like Aiden.

Aiden is a real man. He lives in the mountains and spends his days saving people.

I was surrounded by hungry wolves and he charged in without any hesitation or fear. He grabbed me and carried me off to safety like it was just another day at the office.

He’s so sexy. I can’t stop staring at him.

For the first time ever, true desire and need are flooding my veins. I smile as I let it consume me. I let it take me over.

I’m not pushing this incredible feeling away. Not this time. I’m going to see where it takes me.

“Do you live around here?” he asks, looking hopeful that I’m not just another tourist.

“Not really,” I say. His face drops. I can see the disappointment in his eyes and I can’t help but smile from it. He really is interested. This is blowing my mind. “We drove three hours this morning to get here. One of the guys I came with is friends with the pilot who took us up.”

“You’re not leaving so soon, are you?” he asks, looking a little desperate. It’s so cute. “Are you staying for the weekend at least?”

I shake my head as my shoulders sag. “We’re driving back today.”

He stares at me for a long time, looking like his heart is cracking in two.

Is he breathing?

“I think you should stay,” he finally says.

I laugh. “What?”
