“I’ll think about it,” I say as I continue walking with my girl. “No promises.”

I already know I’ll play for them, but it’s nice to feel like a star athlete with all of the attention.

He drives away with a wave when the impatient guy behind him starts honking.

“What was that about?” Kylee asks as we continue walking to the restaurant.

“A softball tournament between the firefighters and the cops,” I say. “It’s at the end of the summer.”

Kylee looks around at all of the friendly people talking and then looks up at me. “Does everyone like know each other around here?”

I shrug. “The people who grew up here do. The place has a small town feel.”

“I can see that.”

I hope she likes that sort of thing and doesn’t prefer a city vibe. I’d follow her anywhere, but I don’t think I’d be too enthusiastic to live in a concrete jungle.

“So…” I say as we pass the barbershop. “No gymnastics lessons in town. That’s interesting…”

She gives me a steely look, but it’s a playful one. “Don’t start, Mr. Hughes. You got me for the weekend. Don’t push your luck.”

I don’t push it further, but it stays in the back of my mind like a permanent presence. Why can’t she see how perfect it would be for her to move here? For us to be together.

She can move in with me and open a gymnastics studio in town.

I decide to take the long way to the restaurant and walk up Archer Street. There’s an empty commercial space for rent that would make a perfect gymnastics studio.

I hope she falls in love with it as quickly as I fell in love with her.

That would make this night that much more perfect.

Chapter Eight

Kylee

“Idon’t think I’ve ever seen so many stars in one place before,” I say as I stare up at the gorgeous night sky. Along with the trillion shining stars is a giant full moon that’s filling me with a deep sense of awe. Or, maybe that’s just the hot guy beside me. His masculine aura is definitely awe-inspiring.

Our dinner was so much fun. We talked for two hours at the amazing restaurant and then we walked through town and got some ice cream before coming back to Aiden’s house.

I don’t know how I’m going to return home knowing this incredible man is living in this beautiful small mountain town.

What am I supposed to do, just go home and continue to live my boring life as if nothing ever happened? Am I supposed to try and ignore this intense crush that keeps getting stronger and stronger by the minute? Am I supposed to try and convince myself that this is just a fun fling and nothing more? Even a professional gymnast can’t pull off mental gymnastics like that.

“What did you think of that empty studio?” Aiden asks as he takes a sip of his Scotch.

I turn to him with a look, like I know exactly what he’s up to.

“What?” he asks innocently.

I grin at him. “You know what.”

He laughs to himself and then takes a small sip of his drink as he looks out at the gorgeous night sky.

Aiden is so beautiful in the moonlight. It’s like the sculpted curves and lines of his face were designed to be lit up by the moon.

I stare at the side of his face as I wonder what he’s thinking. It may sound weird, but I wish we could be one person and read each other’s minds. I don’t want there to be any secrets between us.

“What are you thinking?” I ask, disappointed I can’t penetrate his mind.
