I try never to voluntarily re-live that day, but Blake shared with me the lowest moment of her past. And I want to do the same.

“You already know how it happened?”

She nods.

“What Thomas probably didn’t tell you is that after I pulled him out of the car, we had to wait for help for hours. My pelvis was broken, I couldn’t move, Thomas wouldn’t wake up, I didn’t have a phone to call anyone, and it was the staff’s day off—why we were able to steal the Ferrari in the first place. I just lay there for hours in pain, feeling totally helpless and powerless, until our parents came back home. I vowed never to end up in a situation like that again. Then I had to spend three months in bed while the fracture healed, not able to do anything by myself. It was the worst time of my life.”

“I’m sorry,” she says, smoothing the creases off my forehead with a finger. “But you don’t have to always control everything; you can just go with the flow sometimes.”

I stare at our joined bodies under the blanket and smirk. “I like our current flow.”

Her eyes follow mine to our naked chests and her cheeks flush.

“Yeah, that happened,” I whisper. “Not a dream, sweetheart.”

For a moment, I’m afraid she might pull away from me. But aside from the vivid blush, she doesn’t hightail it.

Instead, she presses a kiss to my lips. “I know; it’s been so much better than any dream could ever aspire to be.”

“Now, now, that’s going to stroke my male ego; are you sure you want to go down that road?”

“Despite less-than-stellar first impressions, I’m beginning to like your male ego.”

“And all it took was a little kidnapping.”

She playfully swats me. She’s about to hit me with one of her snappy replies when her stomach lets out a loud growl.

I nuzzle her neck. “I see certain activities make you hungry.”

“And I can’t wait to engage in those activities again, but can a girl eat first?”

“Now that we’ve…” I pause. I want to say now that we’ve made love, but I told her that I love her and she hasn’t said it back. I’m not exactly sure where I stand on that front. “Now that we’ve sealed the deal, is it okay if I make you a decent meal, or do I still have to be a lousy cook?”

A hint of the blush she had when she woke still colors her cheeks a delicious shade of pink. “Cook away.”

“Any favorites I can rustle up?”

“I’ll take whatever is served, as long as it comes with a side of you,” she says, kissing me.

“Coming right up.”

We get dressed and I rummage around in the kitchen, making toasted cheese sandwiches. Blake sits at the kitchen island, combing through her hair with her fingers. She looks adorably disheveled.

I place our plates on the counter and sit on the stool next to hers, thinking about how much has changed since our last meal here. Breakfast was only a few hours ago, but now the world feels like a completely different place.

We eat in silence, mostly because we’re too famished to speak.

“Let me,” Blake says, taking my plate once we’re done. “You cooked, I can at least clean.”

“That’s what the dishwasher is for.” I help her load it and pull her to me once the job is done.

I waggle my eyebrow. “How do you want to spend the rest of the afternoon?”

“As much as I would love to have a repeat of this morning, I should probably check in with Evan, see if the fort is holding up without me. Quick break and let’s meet here again?”

I kiss her temple and retreat to my room to give her space. I sag onto the bed and check my phone. It’s blown up with a million notifications. Work emails, annoying texts from Thomas, more work emails and notifications from Mila, plus about a thousand missed calls from my assistant.

I call her back.
