“Yeah, sure,” I grunted, and to make sure I laid it on thick, I added, “With how fucking annoying Kira is, I doubt hislittle soldierstood at attention. Better him than me.”

Von tittered a laugh, then rushed back down the hall, probably to catch Chelsey as she woke or to check in on J.D. and Kira. The vampire vanished around the corner, but I continued to stare even after he left. What if Von was right? J.D.wasan open book. He might tell him he had no interest in Kira. Would that increase Von’s suspicions that Kira and I were playing a game?

There was no way to know, and standing in the hallway wasn’t going to solve anything. Instead, I headed downstairs for breakfast. If I was lucky, the other alphas would still be sleeping so I could eat in peace.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t my day to be lucky. The kitchen and dining room were bustling with activity. Much to my surprise, J.D. was sitting at a table with Abel and Tate.

“Bro, it was such a fantastic night. You’ll never believe how great it was. Kira, like, has something about her. I can’t explain it.”

Tate glared at him. “Can you shut up?”

I forced myself not to mimic Tate’s glare. Cameras buzzed around the men as they ate and talked. I did my best to hide my irritation. My wolf was demanding blood, wanted to throw down with J.D. right there, but I forced him down and tried to appear calm and collected on the surface.

“I know, bro, but I can’t help it,” J.D. said to Tate. “But I feel better than I have in days. It’s all thanks to Kira. It really was a magical night. She totally blew my mind.”

I couldn’t tell if he was lying. Gritting my teeth, I headed to the buffet and filled a bowl with cereal even though my hunger was rapidly vanishing. I controlled my temper and took a seat at a separate table, trying to feign disinterest in the topic.

Tate, however, had trouble controlling his own anger. He leaned across the table and leveled a finger at J.D. “I like you, and that’s the only reason I’m giving you this warning: stop talking about Kira like that. She ismyfated mate. I’m going to see to it. Yeah, we get it, you had the time of your fucking life in the mating chamber. Enough.” Red-faced and furious, Tate turned and spotted me. “Change of fucking subject. How was your night, Wyatt?”

“Fine,” I grunted. “Not anyone’s business but mine and Chelsey’s, though. All I can say is I’m feeling much better after a night alone with her.”

It wasn’t a lie. Now that I’d laid everything out to Chelsey, a massive weight had lifted off me. It wasn’t a sexual release, but a mental one.

Before Tate could say another word, Kira strolled into the dining room. It took everything I had not to stare at her. As usual, she looked gorgeous. She had no trouble cloaking herself in her TV persona and shining that thousand-watt smile at everyone.

“Good morning, guys. How’s breakfast?”

“Great,” Tate grumbled, then shot J.D. a spiteful look. “Sounds like you two had a good night.”

Kira walked around the table, put her hands on J.D.’s shoulders, and kissed him on the cheek. “It was a pretty amazing night, wasn’t it?”

I almost bent my spoon from gripping it too hard. Desperate thoughts and reassurances pulsed through my head, but the way Kira and J.D. smiled at each other made me stifle a growl before it could come out of my throat. She was playing for the cameras. That’s all it was, and I knew that. Kira had been acting since she got on the island. Still, I didn’t like it. It was silly and stupid, but dammit, I couldn’t help myself. Would she feel the same if I were bragging about my night with Chelsey?

Unable to help myself, I tossed my spoon into my bowl. “I had an amazing night, too. Chelsey and I were a much better match in bed than the last time I was in the chamber. No offense, of course,” I added offhandedly to Kira.

Kira shot me an icy glare. “Wonderful to hear. I’m glad Chelsey took that map I drew.”

“Huh?” I frowned, confusion clouding my mind.

“Oh, the one for her to find your cock. It’s so small, I told her she’d need a map to figure out where it was.”

Tate snorted and nearly dropped his glass as a jet of milk shot from his nose.

“Damn, man.” Abel gave a sad shake of his head. “You’re being a real ass, Wyatt. Leave it alone.”

Kira put a hand on Abel’s shoulder. When she looked at me again, I could see I’d actually pissed her off. “Thank you, Abel, but I can handle myself. God, I’m so glad you showed your true colors so early, Wyatt. You and I really aren’t a good match. Not just emotionally, but in bed as well. You never could give me what I needed.” She sent J.D. a suggestive smile. “Another alpha, however, gave me exactly what I wanted last night.Multipletimes.” She smiled wickedly at me. “And again this morning in the shower. You and I are nothing but water under the bridge now, Wyatt.”

I’d spent years training to control my emotions. As an operative, I’d found myself in various situations during missions where I had to keep my calm and cool. But all that training fell away now. Before I could stop it, an image flashed across my mind. Kira bent over, water from the shower cascading down her back, J.D. behind her, his cock buried in her pussy. Kira moaning as he drove deep into her.

“Enough!” I barked. “I’m done talking about this.”

Kira arched an eyebrow. “Well, you were pretty eager to talk about how your night was. I thought we were having story time.”

“I was also trying to eat. I don’t need to hear what you two did together. I’d prefer tonotregurgitate my food.”

“At least you know how to eat cereal, Wyatt. You weren’t very good at eating something else, if my memory serves.”

“Holy fucking shit,” Abel muttered, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.
