"Is that any way to greet your mate, baby?" His voicewas like music to my ears, even as his words made me nauseous. "I'm coming for you, Ella. We need to complete our bond, and then no one can keep us apart. You can't tell me that you still don't feel me there in the back of your mind."

It should have been easy enough to lie because I hadn't felt him, at least not since I had arrived at Tumblewild, but now that I was hearing his voice, it was all coming back to me. I fought over wanting to hang up or stay on the line just to hear him speak. Neil’s words were like a cold drink of water.

"Goddess, I can't wait to claim you," Neil murmured, clearly as affected as I was. His breathing turned ragged, and I realized what he was doing on the other end of the line. Knowing that he was aroused sent a thrill of desire through me. I squeezed my legs together, refusing to masturbate over the phone to his voice.

Stunned and flushed with embarrassment, I ground out a warning. "Don't call me again."

I quickly hung up the phone, my heart pounding, and my cheeks hot. I leaned against the wall and tried to catch my breath, and it was only then that I realized Gabe was standing in the hallway, watching.

"Ella," he said softly. "Who were you talking to?"

I could feel myself blushing even more as I shook my head and forced a smile. "Just an old friend," I lied, trying to act casual. "Let's go back to dinner."

Gabe didn't move. His eyes were blazing as he glared at me. "Don't lie to me, Ella," he growled. "That wasn't some friend."

I felt my heart drop into my stomach as I realized that heheard at least part of the conversation. My shoulders slumped as I bowed my head in shame. Gabe was silent for a moment before speaking again.

"Are you going tell me the truth?" He demanded, his voice tight with frustration and anger. "Or do we need to handle this another way?"

His words cut through me like a knife, and I found myself struggling to breathe as feelings of dread and arousal mixed. Gabe's nostrils flared, scenting my desire. He closed the distance between us, backing me into a bathroom and shutting the door behind him.

He grabbed me by the waist and looked into my eyes, his unmoving and passionate gaze. Gabe eased back onto the counter and wasted no time picking me up. He set me down over his lap, ignoring my protests.

His hand came down hard on my backside, using his other arm to brace me against his thighs. With each swat, he growled out a question. "Are you going to tell me who you were talking to?"

I yelped in pain as he continued with unrelenting force until finally, I couldn't take it anymore and screamed out the truth.

"Neil!" Tears of humiliation streamed down my cheeks as I buried my face into my hands in shame. He kept spanking me until all the tension between us melted away, my tears had abated, and my butt felt warm and numb.

Finally, he helped me off his lap and wrapped his arms around me.

“I know,” he whispered. “I mean, I knew who it was. I knew as soon as I saw the conflicted look on your face and scented your desire in the air that it was him, and thatscares the shit out of me, Ella.”

“Join the club,” I said under my breath. “You think I wanted him to call me?”

Gabe pulled me up until we were face-to-face. I tried to look away, ashamed of trying to hide the call from him and for letting him take me over his knee again. I wanted to push his hand away and run, but my body betrayed me. The arousal from the spanking, the phone call, hearing Neil’s voice. It was too much. I rushed to force my lips against his.

He relented, groaning and allowing himself a taste. I ground against him, using the friction of his pants to help with the ache. I settled my hands on his belt, grappling with the buckle until his length was free. My eyes widened when I wrapped my hand around the length of his dick. It was so big…and warm. It moved for me, hard and silky at the same time. Gabe moaned a curse before pushing me away.

“I’m not going to fuck you while you’re thinking of another male,” he growled, tucking himself back in.

It took me a second to process his rejection, for the reality of what this meant to settle in. I felt my eyes fill with tears as I sagged against him, too emotionally exhausted to argue or plead. Gabe tried to hold me, but that only made me crave his touch even more.

"Ella," his voice was now soothing, but it was too late. I unlocked the door and fled to the hallway, pulling my skirt down over my abused backside. Mariam rounded the corner, intercepting me as I tried to make an escape.

"Whoa, Ella. Are you okay?"

"No," I replied, my voice shaking. "I just need to leave. Ineed some space."

She stepped aside, allowing me to pass without another word. Taking a deep breath, I stumbled outside to the driveway, hesitating only to consider the best course of action. I could shift but leaving as a wolf would make me easier to track if Gabe decided to follow me. It was eerie that he wasn't already. The fact that he had let me go without so much as a grumble reaffirmed that space was what we needed.

That could change at any moment, though.

I took the keys out of my purse and slid into the driver's seat. I pulled away as fast as I could, desperate to put some distance between myself and Gabe.

I had to get away from him. At least, I think that’s what I wanted to do.

The night air was cool against my heated skin, but it did little to quell the chaotic emotions churning inside me. My head spun from everything that had happened, and all the tears shed in such a short time frame. As reality began to sink in, all I wanted more than anything was for this day —this mess— to end.
