“He knows how you feel about honesty, so I think you should put that question to him.”

She dug her phone out of her coat pocket, scrolling through contacts, and hit Tony’s number. He answered on the first ring.

“Where are you?” she asked.

“I’m headed to Babylon. Where are you?”

“I’m standing on the beach with your brother. Where are you coming from?”

There was a pause. “It’s not what it sounds like.”

“Tony, where did you spend the night?”

“With Janine. But nothing happened!”

“You’re a piece of work. Why’d you go there?”

“I forgot I didn’t have anything at the condo. It was all in the trailer.”

“Terrible excuse.”

“I know. Can we talk?”

“We can talk, but I can’t deal with Janine. I wish it didn’t make any difference, but it does. If every time we have a fight now, you’re going to run to her, we might as well make this separation permanent.”

Andy snuck away and joined Sandra, Pam, and Lisa.

“What’s going on?” Sandra asked.

“She called Tony, and he admitted he was with Janine.”

“I don’t get it,” Pam said. “He’s got this beautiful, intelligent, and wealthy woman, and he can’t stay faithful.”

They all looked over at Ryan and Jolene having a heart-to-heart with Laura.

“Where’s Zach?” Andy asked.

“Watching the game inside with Will and Dan and my boys,” she answered.

“Sandra, I’ll get Bella. You about ready to leave?”

“I’m ready. I can take the boys, Lisa.”

“Leave them,” she replied. “They’re with Dan. It’s about time.”

The party dispersed, everyone taking their own children home. Ryan said goodbye to his children and left without making a scene.

“This will be the first time in a week that I just had my own kids home in their beds,” Lisa said. “I need it.”

“Can we hang around?” Pam whispered. “Dan looks so happy.”

“Mother, of course.”

He was sprawled on Lisa’s couch, Dan Junior lying across him and Marcus curled up with Dan’s right arm holding onto him. Zach had Dan Junior’s feet in his lap.

“Quick, get a picture,” Pam whispered. “I’ll make a pot of coffee, if you don’t mind. And start cleaning up this mess.”

“It’s worse than usual.”
