“If we go, we run the risk of offending Tony and the rest of your family,” Sandra said.

“We haven’t been invited to my family Thanksgivings since my ex and I divorced,” Andy said. “I say support our friends. Wouldn’t you rather spend the holiday with Brent’s family?”

“Well, if Pam isn’t going, what’s the point?”

“Ask her,” Andy directed.

Sandra sent Pam a text. Will you go to Kassie’s for Thanksgiving? We would like to spend the holidays with Brent’s family.

Pam read the text. “Oh, great! Now Sandra is saying that they want to spend the holiday with us because of Brent! Nothing like a guilt trip.”

“Just say yes. Then do a public RSVP to Kassandra’s offer.”

“Okay, you’re the boss,” Pam said, grinning. She was glad Dan had made the decision.

“Don’t if you don’t want to go!”

“No! I’m glad you’re taking the lead.”

Pam quickly sent a text in reply to Kassandra’s.Kassandra, we’d love to come. Thank you for taking over. Pam and Dan.

Sandra barked out a laugh after reading it. “Well, there you go. She’s thinking of someone else besides herself for a change.”

“Who? Pam? That’s unlike you to be so contemptuous,” Andy said, concerned.

“You don’t know me, then. It’s just like me to be miserably contemptuous. You obviously don’t remember two Thanksgivings ago when she pulled this crap and then invited everyone at the last minute. I made the turkey and left the gizzards in the paper bag inside the turkey.”

Andy roared with laughter. “Yes, I forgot, but not because it was bad. That was a delicious turkey.”

“Okay, the issue with Thanksgiving is resolved. We go to Kassie’s,” Sandra said. “I’ll ask her if I can help. It’s the least I can do.”

“Me, too.”

Lisa frowned, reading the text her mother had sent to everyone. “What do you do on Thanksgiving?”

“Probably the same thing everyone else does,” Zach replied. “Go to dinner at a family member’s house and overeat.”

“Do you want to come with me? You’ve already met all the players. And my ex will probably be there with some woman. At one time, I said I wouldn’t do a holiday with him, but since he was just at my house with a woman, I’d just be punishing myself.”

“I’d love to go with you.”

Lisa handed him the phone so he could read the thread of messages as family answered that they’d love to attend Thanksgiving at Kassandra’s house.

“I think it’s cool,” Zach said, handing her the phone.

“Why?” she asked, grimacing.

“Because you have a real family here. It’s mostly by choice, too, which makes it more interesting.”

“Zach, trust me, if you knew the provenance behind all these relationships, you’d be disgusted. The only couple on this beach that could be called normal is Laura and Will. And Laura has a history with several of the men who live here. When I know you’re going to stick around, I’ll do a complete family tree for you.”

“I’m going to stick around.”

“I need to trust you because some of it is against the law.”

“Like kissing cousins?” he asked, laughing, not realizing how close to the truth he was.

“Worse than that. Anyway, I’m not saying more.”
