He nodded, eyes wide and a frightened expression flitting over his face. I led him a little way to the side.

“Are you mad at me?”

“What?”

“Areyou angry at me for paying? You know I like treating the people I–I like. I’ve got so much money and can never spend it on anyone—”

“Roy. Stop,” I interrupted his rambling, bringing our clasped hands to my heart. “Thank you for paying. I just wanted to say that you don’t have to treat me every time. I don’t want your money, I want—” I broke off, blushing violently again.

“It makes me happy to spoil you a little,” he purred. His hand placed mine on his cheek. “Or a lot.”

He kissed me in broad daylight in the middle of the street, not caring if my family or the people around us saw. I melted against his lips, weak-kneed and close to bursting with happiness.

When we got back to Kirkmuir we would have to talk about us. Perhaps that would be the end of it all, but I was going to enjoy the shit out of the time I had with him. Hand in hand, we strolled up the street and closer to the city centre.

“Ava wanted to grab a coffee. I think I know where they are.”

Rise & Grind in the Lanes was busy with people on their lunch break, but I spotted my mum and sister already queueing for a caffeine fix.

“Let’s go in.” His hot breath brushed my ear as he placed his hand on the small of my back and steered me into thecoffee shop. It was so wide that it spanned the entire breadth of my waist.

“We’ll wait outside for you, it’s too crowded in here,” Ava called over when we passed them.

Once I’d sat on one of the bar stools at the high table along the wall, he joined the queue, and returned a few minutes later with two cups.

“Thanks Roy,” I mumbled when he handed me my vanilla latte.

“No, thank you, rudra.” He brushed his free hand briefly down my back, nearly making me sigh with delight. “I can’t remember the last time I went on vacation. Thanks for taking me with you.”

We spent the next two days mostly with my family, but we made sure to have time to ourselves. On Sunday, we went for an early run on the beach before heading to our favourite town nearby with Ava and Isla, who both loved Roy’s truck.

My sisters had a field day telling Roy all about our day trips. They made him try every single ice cream flavour so he could make an informed decision picking his favourites, told him embarrassing stories about me, and bombarded him with questions about himself.

“Do you have any siblings, Roy?”

“A big brother, yes,” he told Ava, displaying once more the patience of the old male babysitting the cubs. I watched him lick his ice cream, suddenly extremely interested in getting back home and up to our room. His tongue was so long and agile. I couldn’t help but think about his face between my legs.

Catching my eyes, he cocked an eyebrow at me, looking as if he knew perfectly well what I was fantasising about. “I guess we should head back now, ladies.” Hopping down from the wall we’d been lounging on, he extended his hand first to me, then at Ava and Isla.

“Is your brother as hot as you?” Ava asked him on our way back to the car park, tilting her face up at him and making Isla and me snort with laughter.

Roy threw me a questioning look that I answered with a shrug.

“He probably is. Uh, he’s white with blue eyes and a little thicker around the middle.” He patted his rippling stomach with one hand.

“Oh, I like dad bods.”

“You’re nineteen,” I reminded her.

“So?”

“Lewis is thirty-two.”

Ava made a throwaway gesture with her head, but didn’t say anymore.
