I suck my lip under because it’s all I’ve been thinking about since we got here. “To make things official,” I breathe into her skin, taking in every moment of contact before I slide out.

“Ash, what are you talking about? Making what official?”

I take another breath because I don’t know exactly what she’s going to say.

“You and me.”

She tries to wriggle free to look at me, so I reluctantly disconnect from her and help her roll onto her back. I continue to lie on top of her, holding my weight above her.

“You know I love you,” I say, moving some hair out of her eyes with my finger.

“I love you, too, Ash.” Her eyes are searching mine.

“There’s no one else I want, Maddison. It’s been you from the second I saw you. And you’ve been there for me so much with everything that’s happened during this short space of time.”

“That’s because I love you, and I’d do anything for you,” she says.

That only brings more warmth to my heart and a smile to my face.

“This wasn’t the way I planned on asking you, Mads.” It truly wasn’t. It’s so fucking spur of the moment.

“Asking me what?” She breathes.

“I want you to be my wife, Mads. Will you marry me?”

She gasps and her eyes grow wide. “You’re…you’re proposing?”

“That’s what I’m doing. Aren’t I supposed to be down on one knee or something?”

“I’d rather it be like this,” she whispers, tears in her eyes.

“So will you, Mads?”

She bites her lip for half a second, and I nudge her with my hips.

She giggles as she flings her arms around me and pulls me down to her.

“Yes!” she cries. “Yes, I’ll marry you!”

“Thank fuck.” I grin, brushing my lips past hers. “I have a ring stashed under the pillow.”

I hope it didn’t get lost somewhere in the bed while we were at it like wild cats.

She’s crying, but I know she’s happy because she can’t wipe the smile off her face.

“I thought we were waiting before any of that?” she whispers.

I shake my head. “Change of plan, baby. And I think we should get married here on the island.”

I reach under the pillow with my hand, feeling around for the little box but not breaking from the kiss. Finally, I have my hands on it, pull it out, and open it up in front of her.

It’s a thick, square-encrusted diamond, with tiny diamonds surrounding the band.

She gasps. “Oh my God!”

I grin like an idiot as she holds her hand out. As I slide it on, I realize, both of our hands are shaking.

“Ash, it’s beautiful.”
