“The road could take us anywhere,” she says dreamily.
The cab pulls up soon after, and I wish them goodnight. I’m happy to see them both in their element. "Don't do anything I wouldn't," I say, pointing at them and winking.
Emmerson laughs and wraps her arms around Taylor’s neck.
“That’s a pretty narrow range of things,” Taylor throws back.
“That’s also very true,” I agree, as I close the door and wave them off.
I watch the cab drive away for a moment. The same idea I had earlier resurfaces in my mind.
I need to see Maddison fast.
CHAPTER 4
Maddison
“What do you mean you had phone sex?” Emmerson squeals down the line the next morning when I call her from my car, driving to an appointment. “Was this at the club last night?”
I giggle in response.
“Oh my God,” Em goes on, “I ran into him coming out of some random exit saying he was looking for the bathrooms.”
I can imagine her covering her face, trying not to picture what we were up to.
“It was hot,” I confess. “And totally unexpected. It seemed like he genuinely called to say hi.”
“But you got your rocks off instead?” She laughs.
“Yeah, it just kinda happened,” I say, like it’s no biggie. “We didn’t even FaceTime until the end. It was so hot.”
“I think I need to cover my ears.”
I laugh. “You and Taylor must have been up all night?”
There’s a slight pause. “That’s true,” she confirms.
“He wasn’t too drunk to celebrate?”
“No, you know Tay, he barely drinks at the best of times. He let go a little last night. He got handsy in the cab going home.”
“You two hounds!”
Truth is, I’m happy for Em. She waited a long time for her happiness, and I doubt she and Taylor will ever break it again. They’re too strong together now. They’ve had that bond since junior high.
“It was a great night. The guys were all so pumped. Including Ashton.”
“You know, nothing even happened between us when I was there. I could kick myself now, granted there wasn’t much time.”
“I think he’s pretty taken with you. Taylor seems to think so, too.”
Judging from last night’s little sexcapade, I tend to agree with them.
“You know Ash was talking about coming out there ASAP,” Em continues. "I wouldn't be surprised if he’s on the plane now.”
When I talked to him last night, he seemed eager to come out, and I don’t mind at all.
“He mentioned visiting his Mom and going on a date with me,” I tell her.
