“Good to know.” I nod, a smile forming at the edge of my lips.

“You’ve sexted her, haven’t you?” Taylor quips as Em hits him again.

“That’s my best friend you’re talking about!” she chastises.

“I know that look on his face. He’s ga-ga,” Taylor insists.

Yup, Taylor James knows me only too well. I deny nothing.

“He's not even trying to get out of it!”

I chuckle and fold my arms across my chest. “Better to not incriminate myself.”

“She deserves a nice guy,” Em says. “Even if you do live nearly three thousand miles away.”

Yeah, distance could pose a problem. “I’m glad that you think I’m a nice guy.” That does make me feel good, despite what I was doing with her best friend behind closed doors in the club tonight. I guess there’s no immediate crime in being horny for a girl I’m hot for but hardly know.

“Always been his problem.” Taylor grabs me by the shoulder and shakes.

“What has?” I ask. “Being nice?”

Taylor laughs. “Something like that.”

“You must be drunker than I thought,” I say, but in reality it’s not possible because Taylor isn’t a big drinker. He made theexception tonight because we won The Stanley Cup. “But fuck, it feels good to have that cup.”

“We all worked hard,” he says. “Best night of my life.” He glances at Em again and gives her a kiss. “I won both the cup and the girl in one night.”

I shake my head at the pair of them. I know I need to get out of this taxi soon so I can give them their much-needed space. “I’m happy for you both,” I say. “I really am.”

“Thanks, Ash.” Em smiles. “It was great to see it all play out on the ice, although Maddie's presence would have been the cherry on top.”

She’s not wrong there. And I do not need to be thinking about cherries right now.

“That slap shot you made in the final minute…” I shake my head. “I can’t wait to see it on replay.” It’s always a little surreal watching yourself on the big screen.

I know Taylor studies the games over and over.

“I knew we could do it,” Taylor says. “Seeing Em in the stands ignited something within me.”

She’s smiling from ear to ear at his words.

“One thing is for sure, you couldn’t wipe the smile from Coach Carter’s face.”

“That makes a change.” Taylor laughs.

“You guys deserve it. You’ve worked so hard,” Em says. “And now, you get to have a break before pre-season training.”

Thank God. Everything in my body is aching.

“You guys gonna go anywhere on vacation?” I ask, just as we’re nearing my stop.

“I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve,” Taylor winks.

Em gives him a shove. “Like what?”

“You’ll see,” he laughs.

I know he has a place in the Caribbean he bought for his mom. He also vacations there during the off-season.
