“Would it be a little forward if I kissed you?” he asked me with a cheeky smile.

“Not at all,” I replied. I knew I sounded a little breathy. The mere sight of him standing over me made me feel weak at the knees. And when he grinned and reached down, holding my chin with his hand, he brushed his lips past mine. It was soft at first, and careful, but it soon grew with intensity when I wrapped my arms around him.

I could feel him smile against my mouth, clearly enjoying himself as he pressed his body into me.

There was a whole other world to Ashton Rivers and his mouth. He kissed me like a freaking God, as well as an expert, not that I had any doubts he knew what he was doing.

Yep, I could feel he was hard. And that was hot in itself.

He pulled back slightly to gaze down at me. “Oops,” he said with a laugh.

"You can say that again," I whispered, avoiding eye contact with the mammoth situation in his jeans.

“I’m trying my best to be a gentleman,” he said.

“Trying being the operative word,” I laughed.

He laughed, too, and reached back down to kiss me again. There was more vigor and tongue this time. He groaned as he pulled back moments later.

“You sure you have to leave tomorrow?” he asked.

I nodded reluctantly. “Yeah, I already extended my leave for a week.”

“The timing sucks.”

“Totally sucks,” I agreed.

“I’d ask you to dinner or something, but I have a family thing tonight. My Dad.” He ran a hand through his hair in a frustrated manner. “He’s a whole other story.”

“It’s okay, I understand.”

"I might come out after the playoffs. I wanna visit my Mom and Sister too.”

I felt giddy when he suggested meeting up in Florida soon after the playoffs.

Who was I to argue?

“So, we could grab dinner then?” I asked hopefully.

“Yeah, I’d like to take you out on a proper date.”

It seemed like he was going out of his way for a date with me, which made me feel good.

“So, this wasn’t a date?” I teased him.

“It can be whatever you want it to be, honey.”

Even the way he called me honey was sexy. It rolled off his tongue as smooth as silk, and I was starting to believe he was a bit taken with me. He was making me feel flushed, and my heart was racing a million miles an hour.

“I better take you back before I steal you,” he smiled, touching the ends of my curly hair.

“That’s a damned shame,” I replied. Knowing he had a missile going on in his jeans, one I would have loved to have taken care of. I’m not one to dive in head first, but I would’ve had no problem with him stealing me away at that point.

We reluctantly unraveled ourselves, and he drove me back to Emmerson’s place. Saving another kiss for the driveway.

"I'd like to get to know you better," he said before leaving. “Even if we live in different cities. There’s something about you, Maddison, something I like a lot.”

I felt the same. My attraction to him was alarming.
