I hadn't felt this way in a while, but now I was giddy to see him again. “There’s something I like a lot about you, too, Ashton.”

He gave me that sexy, gorgeous smile, and I tried not to melt on the spot.

“You be good until I see you again,” I added.

He grinned his head off at that. “I’m always good, Maddie. You know that old saying?”

“What old saying?”

He turned in his seat and picked up my hand, giving it a squeeze as he kissed me on the back of my knuckles. “When I’m good, I’m good. But when I’m bad, I’m better.”

I chuckled. I had to hand it to the guy. He certainly had a way with words. “It's like that, huh?”

He shrugged. “Something like that.”

I smile at the thought of my ‘date’ with Ashton, even though I haven’t seen him since then.

I think the whole stadium-tour thing was just a ploy to get me by myself. Though other than the kiss, he didn’t try to take things further. I suppose we couldn’t really go at it in the lot or in Emmerson’s driveway.

His family situation sounded pretty intense, too, so I didn’t want to pry why he had to take off.

My motto is that things will fall into place if they're meant to.

Our paths would cross, and our fates would collide.

My approach to work and business deals has a different motto. I’ve worked hard for listings, as they rarely come without effort, and I’ve never relied on luck.

But with men, I’ve sort of put relationships on the back burner. Dating too many douchebags pushed me further into work. I keep telling Em I don’t have time for anything serious.

Then, we went to Seattle so she could visit her dad, who wasn’t too well, and she met up with her high school sweetheart at the game, where I wore Ashton’s jersey. They both got backtogether a couple of weeks later, and it made me think that romance might still be out there, but maybe it's more of a fantasy than reality for most people. I’m glad that things have worked out for her and Taylor. They always were a good match together.

Relationships haven’t exactly been easy for me in the past. My mom says I work too hard, and that may be true. But seeing how hard it was for them to get divorced also made me think twice about getting too invested with someone.

I can’t stop thinking about Ashton, though. It’s been that way since I got back from Seattle.

The night I flew in, I went directly to my mom's place from the airport to have an early dinner there. I knew she’d missed me the week I’d been gone, and I had to catch her up on Em and Taylor’s reunion and what I’ve been up to on my trip.

My magic bullet also got a workout that night, and most nights since. It’s all due to the fact I can’t stop thinking about him and how intense our kiss was, and thinking about what he has packing in his pants.

I rent a beautiful bungalow on the beach that’s close to everything I need. One day soon, I hope to purchase a place of my own. I've been saving money for a while. I used to live in an apartment complex with great facilities, but I moved after I started earning good commissions. Nothing beats being right across from the beach. I love it.

Getting home after a busy week, I finally unpacked and put everything away. I hate having my suitcase sitting there for too long. I pull the little flag out that I kept from the first game, along with Ashton’s jersey. He doesn’t know I still have it.

We hit it off despite being strangers.

There was definitely an immediate chemistry between us.

I smile as I remember how I kept apologizing for knowing nothing about ice hockey. I am more of a football kinda gal. But Ashton said it was refreshing. Maybe he was just being polite. Then again, he kissed me up against the car after only knowing me for less than twenty-four hours. That was very sexy, and he’s an excellent kisser.

I think he’s the kind of guy who likes to have a connection with a woman, and I find that really hot.

I smile even more, thinking about that while I give myself some pleasure with my magic bullet while I bathe and have a glass of wine. I know we’d be good together. It has been months since I dated or had sex, so I’m a little pent up to say the least. .

Then there’s our height difference; I’m only five-foot-four, while he’s six something.

My body is pretty sporty from years of playing tennis and being active growing up. I work out most days and try to stay healthy. I’m happy with my appearance at twenty-eight. I guess I’m sort of cute. My wild, curly gold hair is sometimes hard to keep in check, and some days it seems like it has its own zip code.

I’m pretty sure he found me attractive. The kiss we shared, and his hard-on spoke volumes.
