“Of course.”

“I can tell by that smile on your face.”

I know I’m grinning like an idiot, but I can’t help it.

I lean down to kiss her, knowing I can’t get too caught up in her right before I have to go. “I can hardly wait,” I tell her. I knowI have to reel it in and not get too carried away. We have all night tonight.

“You go do what you do. I’ll be watching,” she says, giggling.

“You don’t know how much I love hearing you say that.” I can’t help but wonder if this is how Taylor felt when Emmerson recently came to watch him during the Stanley Cup Finals after they’d been a little up and down on her visit to Seattle.

Then she showed up at the final game, and the spark in his step was unstoppable.

Maybe it’s not exactly the same thing, but there's something special about having someone you care about in the stands.

I never knew I needed that until now or that I even cared about it.

“All true.” She backs away and gives me a cute little wave. It’s then I see the remnants of one of my team jerseys sticking out of her purse.

I shake my head, watching her. I swear to god, this girl is too much.

I grab my equipment bag from the back of the car and high-tail it into the arena, where I meet up with Tyler in the locker room. He’s the first guy I run into.

He’s tall and dark, with short cropped hair and a lean but strong frame.

“Bro!” He gives me a wide hug when he sees me. “Long time no see, huh.”

“Something like that.” I chuckle. “I’m surprised they finally got you out of Seattle.”

“Safest way to spend some time with my girl,” he says, a tad quieter.

“Coach Carter ain’t here now to whip your ass,” I tease, nodding to a few of the guys over his shoulder. Straight away, I see Alton Hart from Miami Spirit, Ace Brixton from the New York Kings, and Timothy Rogers from Vegas Heat.

“Thank fucking God.”

“How did you manage to get Cindy over here without causing suspicion?” I ask him as I walk over to the nearest bench to put my bag down.

“She’s doing PR for the team, so her Dad was more than happy for her to come along, knowing you and I would be here.”

I chuckle, shaking my head.

“What?” he asks.

“So, you’re supposed to be watching out for her?”

He pops a shoulder. “Something like that. Hey, I don’t know the exact dynamics of it yet.”

“How long are you gonna keep this up without talking to him?”

“Soon,” he tells me.

I know it’s a new thing and all, but I can’t help wondering if he’s playing with fire. “It’s your head,” I tell him. “But I hear Coach Carter can still smash that puck pretty hard.”

He chuckles, wiping a hand over his face. “Hey, I’m sure even Coach Carter wouldn’t do shit to my money-maker.” He circles his hand around his pretty-boy face to show what his money-maker is. I guess he has a shit-ton of endorsements with his modeling of merchandise and shit. I’ve done bits and pieces over the years, but I’m not much into that side of it unless the contract is one I can’t refuse.

“You sure about that?”

We both look at each other and laugh.
