Bailey

“As I approached the steps, the soothing sound of a stream filled my ears. There, on the front porch, stood a woman. As I drew closer, Cole introduced me to her.

“Allison, meet Bailey Peterson. She’ll be staying with us for a while, and Carly is also staying two nights until she leaves for a book conference.”

Feeling a bit like an intruder, I blurted out. “It will only be until we capture or kill my sister’s killer,” This was my attempt to break the silence. Allison clapped her hands. “Oh, can I help?”

Cole looked at her like she was crazy, and I heard him chuckle. “No, you can’t help. Who else is home?”

“Well,” Allison replied, “Mike and Jase are around here somewhere.” Ryan will be here later, she then turned to Carly. “I’ll show you where you two can sleep,” Allison said, putting her arms through mine and Carly’s arms.

“Put Bailey in Sean’s old room; that way, she’ll be near me if the guy tries to get to her,” Cole suggested.

I hesitated, “Wait, I don’t necessarily need to be in a room next to you. I’m sure I will be safe sleeping near Allison. Besides, I’m a light sleeper; if I hear someone, I’ll scream, and you can hear me.”

But Cole had other plans, “No. I’m going to talk to Mike and Jase,” That’s when three guys walked up onto the porch, and they weren’t just any guys—they were as big as Cole, and, to be honest, they were all rather attractive.

One of them called out, “Hey, Viper, what’s up?” I figured Viper must be Cole because all eyes turned to him.

“Hey guys, this is Bailey Peterson; she’s being stalked, and the stalker takes photos of her with him in the picture. Bailey, this is Ghost, Spartan, and Rebel. They have a high-security business and will be helping us to locate this guy.”

I couldn’t help but ask, “Why do they call you Viper?”

Cole explained. “That was my Delta Force name.”

I looked at the men, “We think the guy who is scaring me is the same one who murdered my sister when she was seventeen. His name is Donnie Turner. Do you think we can find him before he shows up here? I wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt because of me,” I glanced at Cole, “Why don’t you join their team? It’ll keep you busy.”

Ghost interjected, “We’re really sorry about your sister. We’ve been trying to convince Viper to join us,” Ghost said before turning toward Allison. “Hello, Allison.”

“Hello, James,” Allison said. I felt tension from those two and knew they must have a history together.

“Carly, are you staying here also?” James asked.

“For two nights, and then I’ll have to leave. Cole insisted that I shouldn’t stay at my home in case that guy came around.”

“If I can get a photo of the guy, I can look him up,” James said.

“Here is his photo,” Cole said, handing the picture of me with Donnie in it to James.

Spartan smiled, glancing at me. “Do you want one of us to stay here with Bailey?”

“No, I can take care of Bailey. After all, we are engaged. You guys can find him before he finds her.”

“What? All three of them spoke at the same time?”

“Don’t look so shocked.”

“But you don’t believe in love.”

“Either does Bailey, so we are perfect together. So don’t get any ideas about asking her out.”

“Okay, we’ll keep in touch,” Spartan said, glancing at Cole.

As we walked to the kitchen, I saw Cole walking inside the house. His buddies must have already left.

Allison turned around, looking at Cole. “Unless you brought something to feed us, then there isn’t anything,” they kept walking into the kitchen.

I paused and couldn’t help but admire the kitchen—it was pristine and had a charming vintage stove with gleaming silver accents. It had eight burners and two ovens. An involuntary ‘Wow’ escaped my lips.
