Then, another man entered, glanced at us, and smiled. I knew he had to be related because he looked like Cole. “Hello,” I said.

He responded, “Hey,” and tilted his head back. Cole introduced me, “This is Mike, this is Bailey. She will be staying here with us until we find her stalker. She’s my fiancé.”

I looked at Cole, and shook my head. “We don’t have to tell everyone we are engaged.”

“I want to tell everyone,” Cole declared.

“Stop already,” I said. “Ignore your brother. Neither of us will ever fall in love.”

“That’s why I’m keeping you,” Cole said, and we laughed.

“Hello, Bailey, then he looked at Carly and wrapped his arms around her. When is your next book coming out? I’m hooked on all of them.”

“Thank you, next week. The one I’m writing now you’re going to love.”

“Are you staying here too?”

“For two days. Cole said the man might get angry when Bailey isn’t there and come after me, and I’m sure I would be scared to be alone, especially since I’m writing this book. Would you like to read what I’ve written?”

“Are you kidding? I would love to read it. Are you all hungry? I can run to the store.”

“Sit and talk to Carly about her scary books. I’ll prepare lunch,” I said, going to the fridge and began gathering ingredients.

“We have another freezer in this room,” Mike said, leading me to another door where this huge pantry was full of food.

I laughed, “I thought you needed to go to the store for something?”

Allison clarified, “I meant something already cooked,” We all chuckled. Allison reminded me of Jackie, who never enjoyed cooking. So, I started making omelets for everyone and took out fish from the freezer for dinner. “I’ll cook while I’m here if that’s okay.”

Mike eagerly agreed, “Are you kidding? This is delicious. Of course, it’s okay. I’ll clean up when you’re finished.”

We were gathered around the table, when another brother entered. I assumed it was Ryan from how Carly reacted.

He asked, “What’s going on here?”

Cole answered casually, “Lunch.”

“Sit down,” I said, “I’ve got your omelet ready for the pan.” Ryan sat across from Carly, his gaze never leaving her.

“Hello, Carly, how are you doing?”

Carly took a deep breath and replied, “I’m good. How about you, Ryan?”

Ryan continued to focus on Carly, “I’m good. So why is everyone here?”

“Bailey will be here until her stalker is caught; I didn’t want Carly to stay up there alone in case this guy is lurking around.”

Ryan still had not taken his eyes off Carly. “You don’t think she can take care of herself even with all those guns Allison told us about,” Carly stood up in her cut-off shorts, and his eyes remained fixed on her. She sat down again when someone walked into the kitchen.

“Hello, where is everyone?” a woman said, walking into the kitchen. I knew this must be Patty—Ryan’s girlfriend. “What’s going on?”

Allison replied, “It’s lunchtime.”

Patty noticed Carly, “Hello Carly, I haven’t seen you in a long time. Are you still grieving?”

Carly had just taken a drink of her sweet tea and almost choked on it. She quickly excused herself, “I’m off to say hi to the family. I will see you all later,” she said, walking out the kitchen door.

“Hang on, Carly, I’ll walk with you.” Allison said, going out the door.
