Spartan, also known as Liam Bellmont, intervened, “Excuse me, Viper. We need to talk to you and Bailey as soon as you both can figure out where she’ll sleep tonight.”

I growled, “You don’t need to worry about where the hell Bailey will be sleeping. She is my fiancé. I will take care of Bailey. Now, what the hell do you want?” I knew Bailey rolled her eyes because I saw them before I focused on Spartan.

Spartan explained, “Donnie Turner was killed in prison four years ago. So, whoever your stalker is, he’s not Donnie Turner.”

Bailey approached the group, “But he looks like Donnie Turner. Who could he be?”

Spartan continued, “We believe he’s Donnie’s twin brother, his identical twin who we suspect went to prison in Donnie’s place. To confirm, we’d need to exhume the body and conduct a DNA test.”

I glanced at Bailey to get her reaction, “If that’s true, then Donnie never went to prison. He’s been free all these years. I can’t believe someone could get away with this. Don’t they take fingerprints?”

I stood next to Bailey before I knew what I was doing; my arm was around her, and she was tucked into my side. “People get by with everything. Swapping with an identical twin is not uncommon,” I replied. “So, this is worse than we thought. He must blame Bailey for his brother’s death. He would’ve been released by now.”

Bailey still looked confused, “I wonder why he would have taken his brother’s place. The brother must have thought Donnie wouldn’t have been able to handle being locked up. He must have thought Donnie needed to be free if this is all true.” Bailey said. “If this is, true, I think we should catch my stalker to see if we’re right. So, I’ll start hanging out alone and see if he shows up.”

I glanced down at Bailey and shook my head, “Have you completely lost your mind?”

Bailey removed my arm from around her and stepped further away. “I will not let you talk to me like that again. I am not crazy, nor have I lost my mind. In fact, I’m going home.”

I agreed, “Fine, we’ll go to your place.”

Bailey clarified, “I didn’t say we, I said, me.”

“Wait, does this mean you aren’t cooking dinner,” Mike asked, walking over to where we were.

Bailey smiled and replied, “I’ll stay if you tell your brother to stop saying I’m crazy,” I couldn’t prevent the chuckle from slipping out when Bailey spoke. The Delta Force had grins on their faces, and I looked at Mike, awaiting his response.

Mike reached over and took Bailey’s hand. “Stay with me; I’ll keep you safe. Let’s see what we can serve with the fish for dinner. Hey, Delta Force, would you like to stay for dinner?” Then he turned to Bailey and added. “If that’s okay with you, Bailey?”

“Of course, it is. Good, I can get my mind off that stubborn brother of yours. I was thinking we could make some homemade ice cream for dessert .”

“Hey, that would be great; we have an old ice cream maker in the pantry. I’ll fetch it. We also have frozen strawberries. I recently restocked the pantry, so everything is fresh. This is going to be fun. I have to return to my team tomorrow. We will start training camp next week.”

“Are you well enough to join your team? I don’t know much about football, but I know they hit you hard.”

“Yes, the team doctor has released me to return to the field. Of course, I would never return if it were up to Allison. But you’re right; those are hard hits. From now on, I’ll ensure I wear all my protective gear. I was kicking, so I wasn’t padded up when I got hit; it won’t happen again.

“That was pretty dirty.”

“Yeah, it was. I broke three of his fingers and his nose. We were both penalized.”

“I could never understand a game where men collide head-on with each other. I tried watching it a few times, but I just don’t get it.”

I watched from the doorway; at first, Mike had a look on his face like he thought Bailey was crazy, and then I watched him shrug, “Hey, not everyone gets it.”

Bailey was busy finding ingredients for dinner, so I grabbed a beer for the guys and walked back outside.

The house was quiet, and I remained awake because Cole played a dirty trick on me. While I was preparing dinner, he moved all my things into the room next to his. When I went to grab my night clothes to shower, I discovered that everything I brought here had been moved.

Instead of fighting with him, I gave in, showered, and went to my new room. I tossed back the covers and stepped out onto the deck off of my bedroom. Knowing everyone would be asleep, I didn’t bother wearing my robe. I settled into the chair, propped my legs on the railing, and gazed up at the stars.

My thoughts drifted to my family, I couldn’t help but mourn for my younger sister, poor Jackie. She died so young; if Donnie Turner were still alive, I want to exact revenge on him. A sniffle escaped me, and I wiped away my tears.

“Are you crying?”
