“I’ll do whatever it takes to get you to rest.”

“Alright, we will visit with Izzy and plan our wedding.”

“Good, I bent my head and kissed her soft lips. Who would have thought I’d love someone more than anything else in this world? I was stupid to believe I could control my feelings regarding love. Love takes control of your emotions; you don't manage your feelings when you love someone as I love Bailey. Your emotions guide you, and it’s the most incredible feeling, even if it comes with anxiety.

As it grew dark, and Bailey still hadn’t returned home from her visit with Izzy, I called Ryan who informed me that Allison had already returned home. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want Bailey to think I was trying to dictate her actions, but she had been away for most of the day.

I finished what I was doing and walked into the bedroom to get my truck keys to fetch Bailey home. To my surprise, she was already sleeping soundly in our bed. I shook my head and smiled before heading to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

“What smells so good,” a sleepy Bailey asked as she wrapped her arms around me.

“I’m making hamburgers. Are you hungry?”

“Yes, I’m starving.”

I kissed her and then pulled out a chair for her to sit on. “I was worried when you didn’t come home. When I went to grab my keys from the dresser, you looked like sleeping beauty in our bed. I almost woke you with a kiss.”

“I wish you had. I had a terrible dream. I’m so glad you’re here with me.”

“Sweetheart, I’ll always be here with you. I’m sorry you had a bad dream. It’s only been three weeks; hopefully, they’ll go away soon. I’ll bring some of my things over tomorrow. The rest I’ll wait until we’ve expanded the house.”

“I’m so excited about the baby. If we have a baby girl, I’d like to name her after Jackie. Is that alright?”

“Of course, it’s alright. I’m sure our baby girl will love being named after her Aunt Jackie. I plan to invite Weston and Shannon to our wedding. I spent every day for four years, with Weston, he thought I saved his life but it was because of him I kept my sanity.”

“Tell me, what happened when you saved Weston?”

“I found him as I headed to our rendezvous point for the plane. Weston was lying in a ditch, and I stopped to pick him up to take him home to his family to be buried. I thought he was dead. It turned out he was still alive. Weston is an Army Ranger. By then, I had missed my chance to catch the plane. I knew I would have to amputate his leg to save his life.

“That must have been a nightmare, having to amputate his leg, and then waiting four years before someone rescued you.”

“They actually came to rescue two other Rangers in the prison. We didn’t even know they were there. Thank God they were. We were preparing to escape, and I have no idea how we’d have managed with Weston having only one leg to run on.”

“You’re a good man, Cole. You put Weston’s life ahead of your own. Not many people would do that. I’m a lucky woman to have you for a husband.”

“Now, you’re embarrassing me. I’m the lucky one to have you as my bride. So when is our big day?”

Everyone knows we are getting married in two weeks, so we don’t need to send invitations. Allison is going to help Izzy so that it won’t be all on her. I’m going to make our wedding cake.”

“It sounds like everything is going smoothly. Do you need me to do anything?”

“Nope, you are already doing something. Expanding the cabin is all I need for now—we need at least four more bedrooms. The living room will also have to be bigger. Why don’t we have a contractor come and look at building around the cabin and keep it as the main room? We can knock down that wall to create the family room.”

“Ryan mentioned he could bring some men over to speed up the construction. In the meantime, we can stay at the family home.”

“Is Ryan a contractor by trade?”

“Among other things. Ryan is a real estate developer and he’s also an architect, and a journalist. Ryan is a workaholic. I’ll ask him to speak to you, and you can explain what you want. Meanwhile, we can continue doing what we are doing. I want to put our personal touch on our home. I plan to build something special for each child we have.”

“That’s one of the many reasons why I love you. Let’s promise never to let our lives become separated as my parent's life did. It all began with my father's accident. A family was torn to shreds. We are pretty sure it was him, right? Has Spartan found him?”

“Not yet. Don’t worry, we’ll find him if he’s your father.”

“I know we will.”
