“How are you feeling, sweetheart?”

“I feel a little sore, but I know it will all go away soon. I’m just glad I didn’t die. I was determined to stay alive because I wasn’t ready to leave you. And you would never know I loved you. That’s why I fought so hard to stay alive; I wasn’t ready to leave you.”

“I’m sorry I wasn’t here to protect you. I shouldn’t have left you alone. I should have investigated Donnie Turner more thoroughly. This is my fault, and I’ll never let this happen again.”

“Come to bed with me; I need you to hold me,” Bailey said, patting the side of her bed.

“But I might hurt you,” I replied, removing my boots and sliding in beside her. I held her gently until she fell asleep, then I closed my eyes and slept too.

I heard whispering and opened my eyes. Izzy smiled at me. “Hello, did I wake you?”

“No, I wasn’t supposed to fall asleep,” I replied, looking at Bailey, who was also smiling.

“I might get to go home tomorrow,” Bailey said, kissing my chin. I was telling my sister about us getting married. She wants us to marry in her yard. It’s beautiful.”

“That would be great. Is it big enough to hold all of our family members?”

“Yes, I’ll take care of everything. This is so exciting,” I saw one tear fall and then lots of tears. I got out of bed and put my arms around Izzy. “I’m sorry for crying, I never cried until I found my sister. I have a sister who I love so much and hundreds of family members. I’m so lucky. Bailey and I found our family. Who knew the strange woman who ran wearing a hoodie was my sister,” we all chuckled.

“We are all so lucky,” Bailey said, wiping a tear from her cheek. She climbed out of bed, and I noticed the bruise around her neck. I felt rage building up, seeing the marks left by that man’s hands.

“Your neck is all bruised. Let me see,” I gently kissed Bailey’s bandaged hands. I wished I could kill him all over again. “That fucker almost took you from me, and I blame myself.”

“Stop it! You are not to blame. He’s dead. It’s all over now. My bruises will fade away. We’ll have a happy life with our children, my sister, and our family,” Bailey said, looking at Izzy, “How many family members do we have?”

“Izzy shrugged, “A lot.”

Bailey managed to calm my racing heart. I chuckled as I thought about our family now, my brothers and Allison. They are going to be so happy for Bailey and me getting married. “I think I might like having a house full of kids. Maybe ten.”

“Ten, are you serious? I have always wanted a big family; I don’t know about ten. Speaking of which, the doctor told me I’m pregnant.”

“You’re pregnant. He could have killed our baby. We’re having a baby. I picked her up and put her back on the bed, I couldn’t contain my excitement,” I picked her up again and kissed her passionately.

“Yes, we are having a baby, and I’m so happy you love me because it’s a good thing if the parents love each other.”

“I love us, and this baby will be so happy to have us for parents. You will be an amazing mother,” I saw the sad look in her eyes and knew she was thinking of Jackie.

“Jackie is probably jumping up and down with joy right now,” Izzy said, “I’m so happy. I’m going to be an aunt. I’ve always wanted to be an aunt. Bailey and I looked at Izzy and smiled. She was crying again, this time from happiness.

“I must get home and start planning. I’ll see you when you get home. We’ll discuss the wedding details later. I feel like I’ve known you all my life; I just hadn’t found you yet.”

“I feel the same way,” Bailey said, hugging her. “Drive carefully on the way home.

“Are you kidding? I had Bo drive me. He’s in the waiting room with the kids. I’ll see you in a few days.” We watched Izzy leave, both of us smiling.

“I feel fortunate to have you and Izzy, and our baby who will be here in about seven months. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”

“We are very fortunate. Now, please get back in that bed and get some rest. We don’t want our baby to be exhausted when he joins his mommy and daddy. I have to tell my brothers and Allison that we are getting married and having a baby.”

“Wait, are you sure we will need a larger kitchen?” I asked, observing Bailey as she packed the dishes. “You’re supposed to be resting. We had an agreement, remember? You said you’d rest while we handled the work.”

“All I’m doing is putting away the dishes. We need a spacious kitchen because that’s where our family will gather every morning and evening. Plus, I’m a chef, and I want a large kitchen to cook in for my many family members. Allison is coming over to help me.”

“If you don’t stop working, I’ll tell everyone to leave.”

“Really, are you blackmailing me?”
