“Lysandra has taken Elix,” I blurted out, hoping that would be enough for Zen to understand.

The jet hit turbulence, fueling the anxiety inside the jet, but I barely felt it, my vibrating body ready to snap.

“Your fiancée?” he demanded, disbelief coloring his words. “Why? Are you certain?”

“We’re certain, Alpha,” Cirilla piped in, reading the distress on my face. “We’re heading into Silverhold from the border of Ironhelm, where the kidnapping occurred. Where could we find Lysandra now?”

“Hang on a moment. I have another call coming through.” Zen’s voice tightened, but he was gone before I could ask anything else.

I wiped the sweat from my brow, willing the plane to move at warp speed, but I was at its mercy, at least for the next hour.

Impatiently, I tapped my foot, signaling for the flight attendant to refresh my drink, which she did before Zen’s voice returned to the speaker.

“Are you still there, Jace?”

“Yes, of course.”

“That was…” Zen cleared his throat, and I sat forward, certain that it had something to do with Lysandra. My eyes locked on Saint’s, who had paled as he realized the same thing.

“That was who?” I demanded. “What’s going on over there?”

“The groundskeeper at Homage,” he explained, his voice going oddly blank.

“What’s Homage?” Cirilla asked before I could. I was beginning to feel like I wasn’t going to get straight answers, no matter where we looked.

“Homage is the house we set up for the orphans—for the Anti-Order. The faeries who worked with Agnan went througha rigorous deprogramming cycle. It took months to undo the damage he did, taking them so young from foster care to brainwash them to do what he wanted.”

“Yes, yes, I heard about all that,” I said impatiently. “Why are you telling me this?” It occurred to me the second after I asked it. “Is that where Lysandra lives? Can you get in touch with her?”

“That’s not a good idea,” Cirilla interrupted. “If she has Elix, you’ll tip her off.”

As always, the wise enchantress had a point, but in my upset, I wasn’t thinking clearly.

“I can’t get in touch with her there,” Zen growled. “Because the place just went up in flames.”

Dead silence overtook the plane, the turbulence settling. It was Saint who broke it.

“What?!” His frenzied tone ricocheted across the fiberglass. “What do you mean? What happened?”

“The groundskeeper just called to tell me,” Zen explained, the concern in his voice palpable.

“Is Elix there?” Saint screamed. “Where is my sister?!”

“There’s no one on-site, according to emergency services,” Zen reassured us, but I wasn’t going to take his word for it. I needed to go there myself and see. “But I’m looking over the security footage as we speak,” Zen finished.

He didn’t continue, but I already knew what he was going to say.

“Lysandra was there with her,” I rasped.

“And Elix escaped,” Saint added, but his voice wavered.

“Where is this place?” I barked into the speaker.

“My guards are combing the area—” Zen tried to say, but that wasn’t going to placate me.

“Saint and Cirilla are coming to the Silverhold Tower, but I want the location of this Homage.”

Saint gave me a scathing look as Cirilla shook her head, but I held up my hand.
