“I-I don’t know?—”

Llyodiver’s hand snaked around his throat, ending his lie midsentence.

“Try again, Alpert,” I growled. “Tell me what you did with her, and I’ll consider sparing your life. But if you lie to me again…”

“I was paid!” he cried out, tears filling his eyes. “Just to drug you both and bring her to a car that was waiting!”

“What car? Who paid you?”

“A female… dark eyes, dark hair. She was young but scary. At one point, I smelled sulfur. I think she had dark magic in her.”

I punched him once, my fangs extending in rage. “AND YOU GAVE ELIX TO HER?”

Alpert whimpered and cowered, blood spilling from his cut lips. “I’m sorry, Alpha! I’m in a bad gambling debt and?—”

“I don’t need your bullshit excuses. Where was she taken?” I insisted, advancing on him menacingly. I was fully prepared to rip his larynx from his throat. “What did she say to you?”

“NOTHING! I don’t know anything else!”

“Take him to the cells at the palace,” I growled, sensing that I wasn’t getting anything else out of him. He had just been a patsy, a pawn in Lysandra’s game.

My phone started to ring again as Llyodiver yanked Alpert to his feet and hauled him toward the SUV. “Cirilla!”

“Solomon has a general view of her,” Cirilla informed me. “They seem to be headed toward Silverhold.”

“Dammit!” I cursed. “How much of a lead does Lysandra have?”

“We’re not sure yet. Solomon thinks she’s about halfway there. They’re in a car.”

“Halfway there? Already?”

“They haven’t stopped, and we are much closer to Silverhold than any other kingdom on our border,” Cirilla reminded me, but geography was the least of my concerns now.

Was she going back for the rest of the Anti-Order? Or for Queen Mirielle?

It didn’t matter. All that mattered was that she had Elix, and I needed to stop Lysandra.

“Send me the details. I’ll find them.”

“Should I contact King Zen? They seem to be headed that way.”

“Give them the heads up, but tell them to stand down unless I need them. Send me those details now.”

I hung up and rushed away from the vehicle, shifting into my wolf body with the phone between my teeth. My legs constricted, tufts of black fur constricting over my broad chest and back. The remnants of my tracksuit fell away, and I sprinted down the streets of Geldon toward the palace to prepare for my attack on Elix’s unrelenting sister.

You can’t have my mate, Lysandra. She belongs with me. And I will kill you if that’s what it takes to get rid of you once and for all.

The SUV bouncedover the remote roads, and I wished I’d taken the plane.

“Are you sure this is the way?” I demanded for the tenth time in as many minutes, looking at the warlock with skepticism. Solomon ignored me and furrowed his brow in concentration, his hands flat and extended against the air, small bursts of fission popping every few seconds.

I glanced at Cirilla, who shrugged, and back at the warlock again. “What is going on?”

“They were traveling this way,” he growled finally, annoyed by my endless questions. “But I can’t feel her anymore.”

My blood chilled. “What do you mean, you can’t feel her anymore?”

“Give him a minute, Alpha,” Cirilla urged, her violet irises shadowing with worry.
