King Cade left his seat, his queen at his side. “Jace, what’s going on here?” he growled in a low voice.

“Why don’t you ask your dear minister?” Jace snarled.

“Thaddieus, what did you do?” King Cade growled, fixing his eyes on the minister.

“N-nothing, Alpha!” Thaddieus whimpered. “I-I was only making conversation. I didn’t mean anything by it!”

The King of Ironhelm looked at me, but I stared at the table.

“Miss Elix, are you all right?”

“No, she is not all right!” Jace spat. “She can’t sit next to such an uneducated asshole.”

“Ryland, have Minister Thaddieus and his wife removed from here,” the king growled at a nearby guard.

Thaddieus stood, visibly shaking, as the guard grabbed his arm and shoved him toward the door, his wife shooting me a scathing look. Inadvertently, I pulled a gust of air through the ballroom, shaking the chandeliers, and Thaddieus turned opaque as the guests gasped.

“What was that?” someone murmured.

Jace’s fingers squeezed harder, and I released the wind, allowing it to slip out of the open windows before I could muster a tornado in my upset.

“Do you have something to say?” Jace fired out at the minister’s wife.

She balked and hurried after her husband without a word.

“What happened?” King Cade asked, as Queen Zephyrine gestured for the band to pick up again. Slowly, the guests resumed their dinner.

“It doesn’t matter,” Jace said smoothly. “The issue is resolved now, isn’t it, Elix?”

Swallowing thickly, I nodded and gave the king a weak smile. “Yes, Alpha. It’s fine.”

“Are you sure?” King Cade insisted. “I’ll have him dealt with?—”

“It’s fine, Cade. Go back to your dinner,” Jace said, his fingers lightening but remaining on my knee. A sprinkle of gooseflesh fell over my skin, and our eyes locked.

King Cade and Queen Zephy turned their attention to the other guests.

“You good?” he asked lazily, his fingers lingering, the tip of his index teasing at the inside of my thigh. My eyebrows shot up.

Is he doing what I think he’s doing?

“I’m good… are you?”

The faintest hint of a smile touched the corners of his mouth.

“I could be better,” he purred. His meaning was undeniable.

“I dare you,” I challenged before I could stop myself. I should have known better.

Jace shrugged, his hands inching up the bare flesh of my legs without hesitation.

My core clenched as his fingers lightly played over my skin, and my breath stopped. Was he really doing this? In front of all these people?

All around us, guests continued to shoot us looks, forcing me to maintain a stoic expression on my face, ignoring the fact that Jace’s hand roamed freely and shamelessly beneath the hem of my skirt and up along my panty line.

The first course was removed, and the second course brought Jace’s hand slipping fully against my most private area, causing my eyes to pop. If the staff noticed what he was doing, they knew better than to comment, removing plates and replacing them with piping bowls.

“Eat your soup,” Jace breathed in my ear, rubbing against the drenched slit in my legs. I picked up my spoon obediently, biting down on my lower lip to keep from crying out as he foundmy spot. From there, every breath was a struggle not to release a moan of pleasure.
