“Charlie.” he replies quickly, warming up to the conversation.

I ask him more about himself, learning that his favorite color is blue, and he is from Brooklyn. That he has family still there, a mom and sister. We talk and talk until he calls last call.

I get him to begrudgingly give me his phone number, and it’s nice. Sure, my hookup plan failed but at least I got a new badass friend out of it.

I walk outside, standing on the curb. I need to call Nathan but I wait, pulling my phone from my jeans pocket and calling my brother, Scout, instead.

“What?” he asks, answering after two rings. He must be busy. He only talks to me like that when he’s being interrupted. There’s some kind of shuffling happening in the background.

“If I were to make the mistake of fooling around with Callum again would you fault me for it?” I ask.

“Fault you? No. I can recognize that he’s attractive. But I would be concerned for how you’d handle that. Do you think you could?”

“I don’t know,” I sigh, “He’s making promises again and I’m afraid I’ll fall again. I’m afraid they’re promises he can’t keep. Just like last time. I’m afraid I’ll love him again.”

“Is that so bad? Isn’t it better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all?” Scout replies softly, the shuffling stopping. Damn him using my love of proverbial phrases against me. He’s right.

Unfortunately, my stupid genius brother is right. But what does it mean to give Callum another chance? To break my vow? I don’t think I’m ready. I don’t know if I ever will be.

But at this time I know I can’t resist our pull. Especially not right now. I’m horny as fuck and I have been since Callum’s pretty eyes crossed my mind. These problems are for future Echo to grapple with.

Right now, Daddy’s going to get his dick sucked.

Iarrive at Callum’s house sufficiently tipsy due to a stop at the liquor store and the joy of always having a designated driver. I drank on the way to his house that appears quaint on the outside.

As I stand on the porch waiting for him to respond to his security doorbell, and see my fine ass standing here in the cold for his cock, I notice my surroundings. I’ve been here before. But I’ve never really looked. It’s kinda perfect.

The house looks like any normal suburban home, complete with a porch swing in the front. I know the inside is filled with fancy, but it’s so subtle you wouldn’t notice it.

It’s been interesting to watch what my friends have done with their wealth since we became famous. Callum prefers to be more lowkey about his fortune. And it’s easier for him as the least known member of the band unfortunately.

His sexy ass should be recognized more, but that’s neither here nor there. What a strange feeling, to root for someone you hate.

Like, “I hope you die, but have a good life before you do!” Smiley face emoji.

I mean, I don’t want Callum to die, but God, do I hate him.

“Echo.” he stands shocked, holding the door open. I push past him and enter the house.

I look around, hands in my jacket pockets, “Why are you being so sketchy? Is someone else here?”

“No! Nonono. It’s just me. It’s just… Nothing. It’s nothing. I’m sorry.” Callum continues to look anywhere but me. I know he’s lying, but why? Is he already going back on his promise? That fucking fast?

“I’ve missed you.” he says, looking at me finally. Cutting through the anger that was beginning to grow.

I hate how he can soften me.

“I just saw you the other day. I see you all the time.” I play ignorant.

He glares slightly, “You know what I mean, Echo.”

I do. I know. The only time he touches me is when I let him. We don’t kiss. No cuddling, holding hands, or casual affection. It’s too dangerous.

My stomach squirms. I dont like the direction this is heading.

“Can you play me the song you were working on in practice the other day?” That’s safe. And I do want to hear how it’s coming along.

“I can.” he replies with a sigh, accepting defeat this time.
