"You just told me I did," I remind him.

"I meant if anything ever happens to me," he says. "So long as you're living with me, you don't have to worry about shit like renter's insurance or anything else."

"What if I mess up your house?" It's a very real possibility. This might have been the first fire I started, but it's not the first damage I've caused. Not even close. When God was handing out grace, I think I thought he asked if I wanted to race…and I hate running. I probably turned him down.

"Mess it up," Theo says, turning to face me. "I don't care."

"You might," I whisper, craning my head back to look at him.

"I won't," he disagrees, sliding one arm around my waist to pull me closer to him. "The only thing I can't live without is right here, Charlotte."

"You shouldn't say things like that," I whisper.

"Why not?"

"Because I might start to believe them."

"Would that be so bad?"

"Yes. No." I shrug helplessly. "I don't know."

"Why are you so afraid to let yourself love me?"

"I'm…not."

His full lips pull down at the corners, frustration shifting through his expression. And then he sighs and shakes his head. "One of these days, you'll let me in," he says. "Come on, let's go get your shit."

"Don't be rude."

He smirks at me again.

I roll my eyes at him and turn to stomp toward my bedroom. He grabs me before I take more than two steps and spins me around to face him. Before I even get a good look at his face, his mouth crashes down on mine. He kisses me like he did last night…like he has to kiss me right now or he's going to die.

I melt into him, kissing him back the same way. His mouth works against mine, setting me on fire from the inside out. I think I could kiss him forever and die happy. He engulfs me while he does it, surrounding me in him and his strength. I soak up every second, my heart and mind warring with me. I want to let him in so bad.

"Damn," he whispers, breaking the kiss a moment later. He rests his forehead against mine, cuddling me close to his chest. "That mouth should come with a warning label, Charlotte."

"Then stop kissing it."

He chuckles, his breath fanning tendrils of hair away from my face. "If I stop, you might forget how much you like it when I kiss you."

"I won't. I mean, I don't like it," I lie.

He chuckles again. "Come on, little liar. Let's go pack your shit."

I slowly pry myself out of his arms. He follows me to my room, sticking so close to me that I bump into him when I stop in the doorway. I squeak, and spin to face him.

"You can't come in," I say, putting a hand on his chest.

"Why the fuck not?"

"Because my panties are in there."

"I'm aware," he says, hitting me with a look that would set my panties on fire if I were wearing any. But he stole them, so that's not going to happen. "Why do you think I'm looking forward to going in there?"

"Theo," I groan. "You can't steal my panties!"

He smirks at me. "Open the door, Charlotte."
