I growl at him, but he just cocks a brow at me.

Why is he so hot when he's bossy? Aren't bossy men supposed to annoy us?

I reluctantly open my bedroom door.

"You sleep with a teddy bear," he says, grinning at me.

"Mind your business, Theo Kline," I huff, rolling my eyes at him. I've had that bear for most of my life. Since I'm allergic to dogs, and probably a menace to them, he keeps me company at night. At least he did.

Theo prowls through my room, looking at all my things. I watch him for a moment, trying to figure out why I like the sight of him in here so much. My room is a closet compared to his. With my full bed, a dresser, and my desk inside, there's not much room left. Everything is pink and girly, but he doesn't look ridiculous. He just looks sexy.

"Is this your mom?" he asks, pointing at a group of pictures on my desk.

"No. That's Tammy, Uncle John's former wife," I say. "She died of cancer when I was thirteen."

"You don't have any pictures of you and your mom?"

"Um, there's one in the living room."

"Just one?" he asks.

I shrug and reach into my closet to grab my overnight bag. It gets tangled up with a bunch of hangers. I drag the whole mess out into my bedroom and then set to work on untangling them. Theo's watching me, waiting for an explanation. I can feel his eyes boring into me.

"My mom and I aren't very close anymore," I finally mutter, pulling the bag free of the hangers.

"Why not?"

I shrug again, moving to my dresser. "I don't know. We're just…" I trail off, frowning. Half of my panties are missing from the drawer. "Seriously, Theo? My back was turned for like two minutes! Give them back."

"Give what back?"

"My panties!" I cry, turning to glare at him. "My lady parts are going to chafe if you keep stealing them."

"Baby doll, I didn't take your panties," he says.

"Yes, you did. I had a whole drawer full of them when I…" His grim expression silences me. Wariness shoots through me. "You didn't take them?"

"I didn't take them," he says.

I stare at him in dismay. Someone was in my apartment while I was gone. They stole my panties. "You don't think…?"

"You're sure they're missing?"

I look again and then nod. The ones still in the drawer are in disarray. They weren't like this when I left the other day. I know because I did laundry while Dixon was throwing his stupid party.

"Get your shit, little one," Theo says, his expression turning downright frosty.

I don't argue with him. I don't pack any panties, either. If Chad was rummaging through them, I don't want them anywhere near my skin. Instead, I shove the drawer closed and go back to the closet. I don't even look at what I pack. I just grab stuff off hangers and shove it into my bag.

Theo's growling behind me like an angry bear.

As soon as the bag is full, I zip it up, my skin crawling.

"Here," Theo says, holding out my stuffed bear.

I tuck him under my arm.

Theo takes my hand and pulls me out of the bedroom, not speaking.
