Page 49 of Playing for Keeps

I bite my lip to hide a smile as he sails past Wes, clearly annoyed with him for keeping me waiting for so long. He sniffs for good measure. I like him.

"I can't take you anywhere," Weston grumbles, leaning down to kiss me way too deep for the middle of a hotel restaurant. Not that I'm going to complain though. Are you crazy? He can kiss me anytime. "I leave you alone for five minutes and they come out of the woodworks. You're too damn beautiful, angel."

"He's gay."

"He's still flirting."

I roll my eyes. There's no use trying to convince him otherwise. He doesn't listen. He thinks everyone with a penis wants me, and there is no convincing him otherwise. It's completely crazy, but then again, he's always been a little crazy.

"You're an hour late," I tell him. "Someone had to keep me company."

"I'm sorry." He takes the chair next to me like he always does, pulling me up against his side. His hand trails down my bare arm, making me shiver. "The game ran long."

"Excuses, excuses," I say, though I'm not mad at him. I just like giving him hell. It's basically my job. It's in the subscript on the marriage license. The words are just super small so men can't read them.

"Your son scored the tie-breaking goal."

"Seriously? Go, Deacon!"

"Not Deacon. Dax."

"Dax?" I blink, surprised.

Dax is only five, barely even old enough to be on the youth league team Wes coaches in his spare time. We weren't going to let him play until next year, but he threw a fit, so we decided to go ahead and let him try. He's smaller than everyone else on the team, but he's fast like his daddy. He's a little wild like him too. He spends most of the games on the bench, talking smack about the other team.

Deacon is quiet and more reserved. He's the only one. The other four are all assertive and opinionated. Which is all Weston's fault. They act just like him!

Deacon may be quiet, but he's a hell of a player. He's been skating since he was three. He's been handling a stick for longer than that. We try not to push him toward the sport though. Wes wants the kids to make their own decisions about their futures.Wes says too many good players quit early because they're pushed too hard when they're young. They aren't allowed to be kids. He doesn't want that for our babies.

Neither do I. If they decide to stick with hockey, I want it to be because they love the game. Not because they were pushed into it. Alexis played for a little while, but she decided she liked the skating part more than the hockey part.

"I'm sad I missed it," I mumble, pouting. I usually go to all of the games to cheer the boys on, but I had my doctor's appointment. Which is why we met here instead of at home.

"Theo recorded it for you," Wes promises, brushing his lips across my temple.

Theo helps Wes coach the kids. His little boy is on the team too. I love that Weston is still close with his former teammates. Most have moved on to other things now, but they all still try to get together when they can. It helps that Theo, Gray, and Kris all still live in Nashville. Jonas was traded to the Penguins several years ago, but retired three years ago. Logan plays for the Capitals now. And Kellan is still with the Predators. They're the only two who haven't retired who are still close to Wes.

"How was your appointment?" he asks.

"Good. Was Dax excited about the goal?" I ask before he can start asking questions. Since he wasn't with me today, he doesn't know I'm pregnant yet. I'm waiting until after I eat to tell him, or I'll never get food. He'll drag me out of here to have dirty hot Valentine's Day sex. I want steak first.

"He was. You're deflecting."

"Am not. You're just paranoid. It's from all that time you spent hiding from paparazzi. I bet you have a complex now."

"I'm not paranoid. You're just a shit liar, cutie pie," he says, chuckling. His lips touch the shell of my ear, making me squirm. "I'll let you keep your secret for now. But you're going to pay for it when we get home."

"About that…."

"Mmm?" he hums, wreaking havoc on my body. Jeez. He's not even touching any naughty parts and I'm ready to fall off the chair. It's that mouth of his. It's magical.

"Since the kids are staying with Gray and Ayami, I booked us a room."

"Yeah?" he breathes, nuzzling my neck. "Smart girl."

"I know, right?"

He chuckles.
