“Perhaps.” She shrugged, feeling a little flirtatious. He was good-looking and didn’t appear married. She was single. There was no reason for her not to have a little flirtation.

“You can count on it.” He chuckled.

Morgan was already around the block, so she didn’t reply. She breezed into the office only to halt at the panicked look on Jessica’s face.Oh shoot, she had probably been the one who’d called, but her mystery guy and her spilled coffee made her forget all about it.

“Miss Capron, are you alright?” The girl looked at her as if she’d seen a ghost.

“I’m fine.I overslept and bumped into someone on the sidewalk when you called.I’m sorry to worry you.”

“I’m just glad you’re alright.”

“My coffee didn’t survive.” She held up her broken cup.Only her sleeve had received any damage from the flying beverage, and that had been minimal.

“I’ll bring you a fresh cup.”

“Thank you.”

By the time she set her things down and was sitting in her seat, Jessica was setting down her cup of coffee.Morgan was a creature of habit and always had a cup of strong black coffee first thing in the morning. It didn’t matter if she already had a cup at her apartment. It was what helped fuel her throughout the day.

Morgan took a sip.So much better.“So much better,” she repeated aloud.“Alright, let’s try this again.Morning, Jessica,” Morgan greeted her.Jessica had been her assistant for the past five years. The woman was knowledgeable, proficient, and dependable. She couldn’t imagine working without her.

Jessica smiled.“Good morning, Miss Capron.I have a few messages for you and your schedule for the day.” Jessica slipped the message notes in front of her and took the vacant seat across from Morgan.

This was how her day always went.Hit the ground running as soon as she crossed the threshold. She liked staying busy, but sometimes she preferred to have a few seconds in the morning to just breathe.“Shoot.” She sat back in her chair and sipped her coffee as she listened.

Jessica was halfway through her schedule for the day when she heard voices in the hallway. Two men were talking as they walked down the hallway, coming from Gary’s office.

It wasn’t a large building. They had their two offices, a meeting room, and the front receptionist desk.Gary’s office was just down the hall from hers.

Gary and another man stopped near her door entrance laughing.Jessica had stopped going over her schedule and looked over her shoulder at the two men.

Both seemed to realize they had an audience.Morgan nodded toward the one she knew.“Gary.”

“Morgan, I apologize if we were interrupting,” he greeted warmly. He was her boss and mentor. His company was her first and, she hoped, last job.He pushed her to be better at closing deals and finding the best price for clients. She was ranked one of the top real estate agents in the area because of him.Their firm was one of the most sought-after in lower Montana.

Gary was single—married to his job—in his mid-sixties.His hair was more grey than black.

He had interrupted, but she wasn’t going to say so.“Not at all.Jessica and I were just finishing up.”

“We were,” Jessica easily lied. That was another reason she liked this woman. She was quick on her feet and had the best poker face.

“I have a new client I’d like you to meet.He insisted on working with you.I was only keeping him occupied until you came in.”

Wow, this was unexpected. Not people asking for her, but for Gary to give up a client to her. They weren’t competitive, but they did make commission off of their sales.

“And who might this client be?” she asked, standing up to greet her guest and hopefully new client properly.

“Simon Valentine,” the man said coming into the room. One she recognized.

“You.”

“Me.” He grinned. It was her rescuer from this morning.“I told you you’d see me again.”

“You two have already met?” Gary looked between them, confused.

“Of a fashion,” Simon answered still looking at her.“I rescued her after she took a tumble.”

“You saved me from almost falling over the bridge,” she clarified.“Unfortunately, my coffee did not survive.” Better the coffee than herself though.
