“You, yourself, admitted you were standing in a bad spot.” Morgan didn’t need to admit anything even when he was right.“I see you found a replacement coffee though.” He tilted his chin to the cup on her desk.

“I did.” She noticed they had the attention of both Gary and Jessica. That wasn’t good.“Apologies, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr.Valentine,” she greeted him professionally, then came around her desk, holding her hand out for him to shake.

“Miss Capron,” he practically purred her name as he extended his hand to hers. His hand engulfed hers, almost swallowing it whole. His face split into a grin of real porcelain white, straight teeth.

“Well, I’ll leave you to it,” Gary said and left.

Oh, right. There were still people here.“Jessica, reschedule my morning appointment please, and why don’t you bring some pastries and coffee in?”

“Yes, ma’am.” Jessica nodded, but Morgan saw the gleam in her eyes as she left. She saw the chemistry between them.

“Please have a seat.” Morgan indicated to the chair Jessica had been using.

As he sat down, Jessica came in and placed the coffee and a plate of pastries on the edge of the desk between Morgan and Simon.Without a word, Jessica left again, closing the door behind her.

“So was this morning a coincidence or not?” Morgan questioned, curiosity getting the better of her.

He pursed his lips and rocked his head from side to side, his hands dangling over the sides of the chair.“Yes and no.I had stopped by your office yesterday, but you weren’t here.”

She had been dealing with the police yesterday.“I was out.” She didn’t know why she felt the need to tell him, Morgan didn’t owe him an explanation.

“So, I planned on coming in today to see you, but once again my plans were foiled, so I decided to walk over to a friend’s house. They live on that block you were coming from.”

Morgan didn’t know any of her neighbors even after all the years she’d lived there, so it wasn’t like she could ask him which one.

“It’s a lovely neighborhood.I’ve lived on that street for almost ten years now.”

“Fascinating.Which one?”

He couldn’t expect her to answer that.“How about we focus on what brought you in to see me?Twice now.”

“Later.”

Morgan was so stunned by his answer, it took her a moment to respond.“Excuse me?”

“Tonight.Five o’clock.Meet me at Bridges. We’ll discuss it over drinks.”

“And if I refuse?” she inquired calmly, but inside she was seething.Morgan didn’t like being manipulated.Especially by a handsome man who was probably used to everyone bowing over to assist him.

“Then I’ll give my business to someone else.” He shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal to him.

“But—” she sputtered, trying to come up with a retort.“That’s extortion.”

“I’m a businessman, Morgan.” He smiled, and she hated it made her stomach flutter.“When I see something I want, I take it, and I’ll use any means to get it.” His eyes heated, making his meaning clear that he wanted her and was using business to do it.

“I am not a piece of property to be bartered with.” She let her ire show.

“No, you’re not, but I’ll use any means to spend more time with you.” He stood up and started heading for the door.“Until tonight.”

“What was that about?” Jessica asked a moment after Simon left.

“An annoyance,” Morgan stated, falling back in her seat.

“He left rather quickly.Did you not close the deal?” Jessica took the open chair, Morgan’s schedule book open again as if they hadn’t just been interrupted.

“He wants me to meet him for drinks tonight to discuss this business deal.” She almost put the last part in air quotes because she wondered if it was a ruse.Though why he would use a ruse like that to meet her was beyond her. She’d never heard of him or seen him before today.

Who was he to her?No one, and that’s the way she wanted to keep it.She already had one annoying man who was trying to manipulate her.She didn’t need another.
