“Where?” I was curious.

“From you, of course. Look at you.” She said.

I didn’t see myself to be as strong as she said I was. I chuckled. I’d have no words for her even if her words were heartwarming. They made me feel a way that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I smiled at the thought of it again.

“He’s a fighter, That’s for sure. I’m not sure I can be this much of a fighter. He’s been through a lot with his health, and he’s still fighting through alot.” I said.

“Asthma can be deadly sometimes, but I’m sure he can beat it. I mean, look at him.” She kept on pushing more encouraging words.

“Right.” I agreed.

“How long has he been sick?” Olivia looked worried as she asked.

“As long as I can remember,” I replied. “It’s been a burden we both have had to live with. I do all I do just for him. He’s my world.” I looked at Michael as he was sleeping and smiled.

“I just want the best for him. I want to give him a life I never had; the best of it.” I added.

“He’ll be very proud of you. In fact, He’s very proud already.” Olivia said.

These words made me smile. “How do you know that?” I asked.

“Before his attack, he told me his father is a very good man, and I believe him.” She said and smiled.

I stood up from where I sat and went to sit close to her.

“I was really scared, you know?” I said as soon as I sat.

“Why?” She asked.

“I thought I lost him. The fear of losing him almost made me crazy.

“He was in good hands.” She said confidently and chuckled.

I was surprised about how free I felt when I was with Olivia. I can be uptight sometimes. But, with Olivia, I was just relaxed, which was surprising.

“I do not doubt that, now,” I held her hand. “You’re good for both of us.” I looked into her eyes, and she did the same.

We locked eyes for a while. I could feel the tension in the room. I was sure she felt it, too. Her facial expression spoke volumes.

Our faces drew closer like there was a magnet in between us both. I felt like kissing her and I held onto the feeling hoping it would never end.

Our lips almost touched when a nurse came in to check on Michael. It was the worst time for the check-up.

“Oh! So sorry!” She apologized for interrupting and wanted to turn around. “I can come back some other time.” She said.

“No. No. It’s fine. You do your job. It’s important for my son and what’s good for him is good for me.” I chuckled. Although I wished the nurse had delayed for a bit before she came in for the check-up, she still had to do her job.

Olivia and I stood up and gave the nurse space. She did her check-up and was soon done.

“Well, he’ll be fine. He just needs more rest.” She started. “His vitals are fine. So, we have nothing to worry about.” She finished.

I was happy. I smiled and said, “Thank you.” My heart was at ease. “When will he be discharged?” I asked.

“We’ll do a few more checks on him just to be sure. After that, you can take him home.” She explained.

I nodded. Olivia and I chorused, “Thank you.”

She nodded and left the sick room.
