“Please stay.” He folded his lower lips and kept pitiful eyes, causing his whole face to look that way.

Although I wanted to stay, if I didn’t, that look would have made me want to. “I’ll stay. Besides, I must see your dad before I leave.” I assured him.Ben had texted earlier that he was close by, so I wasn’t in any hurry to leave.

“Olivia, can I tell you something?” He said after a while.

“Yeah sure, Mike. What’s it?”

“You remind me of my mom when I was younger, and she took care of me.”

I was stunned and taken aback that he thought of this. “Is that so?”

“Yes, and I wish you could be a new mom to me. Will you?”

“Oh, Mike. It’s not as easy as that. But Icanpromise I’ll come around as often as I can, and we can be good friends like we were today.”

He wasn’t very satisfied with my response, but that was all I could give him. I wasn’t sure of anything else right now and didn’t want to give him so much hope. Thankfully, an interruption came in to save the moment.

“Michael!” Ben yelled from the living room. He was back.

“My dad is back!” Michael stood up and grabbed me by the hand. He started pulling me to stand up and follow him.

I stood up and we went into the living room. He ran to his father and gave him a tight hug. I could feel the father-son bond from where I stood.

“Hey! How are you?” Ben asked his son.

“I’m fine, Dad.” He responded. “Olivia brought candy, and we ate and saw a movie together. Then we watch the sunset together. It was beautiful.” He reported everything to his father like a voice recorder giving a report.

I chuckled while I watched them.

“Wow! Olivia is the best,” Ben said.

“Yes Dad, she is!,” Michael said.

“Okay, son. It’s getting late. Why don’t you go clean up and come out for dinner?” Ben suggested.

“Okay, Daddy!” Michael ran off.

“Hey!” Ben looked at me.

“Hey!” I responded.“Full disclosure, he had alotof candy.”

Ben smiled. “Thank you!” He said.

“For?” I asked like I didn’t know.“The candy?”

“No… Well, sort of. For everything you did for Michael today. You made him happy, and you know when he’s happy, I’m happy. So. Thank you.” He said.

“Cindy called and mentioned she was going to get some items for the house. I was wondering how you would cope. Seems you did just fine, huh?”

“You’re welcome,” I smiled.

“How was work? What made you come back this late, though?” I asked, changing the topic of discussion.

“Work was good. Stressful as usual.” He sat on the sofa and sighed like a weight was lifted off him.

“I would’ve returned earlier, but I had to make sure everything was ok before I left the ranch. It seemed we had miscalculated some things. So, I needed to stay to work on the books.” He explained.

“Okay.” I said. “Your son is fun to be with. He made me enjoy my day.” I added.
