“I didn’t get to ask your name,” I asked.

“Oh, sorry. I’m Cindy, Michael’s caregiver.” Cindy responded.

“She and Daddy are very close. She was with me in the hospital until I got discharged.” Mike jumped in.

If they left Michael alone, he wouldn’t stop talking, so I quickly cut in.

“I heard Ben’s not home. Do you have any idea when he’ll return?” I asked.

“I’m not sure, but he’ll most definitely return in the evening,” Cindy said.

“Oh okay. I’ll wait for him, then.” I said.

On hearing this, Michael became even more excited. He liked the idea of having me around for a while. He started jumping again. Cindy and I laughed lightly as we watched him express joy.

“You know what? I’ve an idea!” I said.

“Let’s take our cookies to the living room and eat them over an interesting movie. What do you say?” I finished.

“I say yes!” Michael screamed. I picked up my tray of cookies, and we both left for the side of the living room housing the TV.

As I stepped out of the cozy kitchen, Michael’s eyes lit up with excitement.

"Movie day!" he exclaimed, his voice bubbling with joy.

The soft carpet beneath our feet gave a comforting sense of familiarity, and the room seemed to exude an aura of relaxation. The television, standing as the centerpiece, beckoned us with its promise of entertainment.

Selecting a movie became our first task. We browsed through the collection, our eyes widening at the colorful covers and intriguing titles. Finally, after some thoughtful consideration, we settled on an animated adventure that we both adored.

With the movie queued up, we nestled into the plush couch, wrapped in a warm blanket that cocooned us in its soft embrace. Our cookie bags were clutched tight in our hands.

As the opening scenes unfolded on the screen, a sense of enchantment filled the room. The characters came to life, and we were transported to a world of magic and wonder. With each twist and turn of the plot, our eyes remained glued to the screen, captivated by the unfolding story.

I stole a glance at Michael, and he was completely wrapped up in the movie.

We munched our cookies one after another slowly. During particularly exciting moments, our laughter erupted in unison, a harmonious blend of pure delight.

“Sorry to interrupt, but I need to leave to get some things needed in the house. I was wondering if you could stay up with him until I return. Ben should be here shortly.” Cindy explained.

Although I heard her clearly, I was too engrossed in the movie to respond directly to her. So, I simply responded a casual “Okay,” and gave her a thumbs up.

The volume of the movie was at its peak. We heard every sound like it was playing in our heads. Our eyes were fixed on the TV like we were hallucinating.

The movie's climax drew us in completely, our hearts racing in sync with the characters' triumphs and challenges. As the end credits rolled, a satisfied sigh escaped my lips. I turned to my little companion, his eyes still gleaming with excitement. He wanted more.

“More cookies? More movies?" I thought I should probably say no, but Cindy was gone for a while and Ben wasn’t yet home, so I agreed to continue our fun. Besides I was enjoying passing the time with him.

With the plate of more fresh cookies from the oven now in our laps, we savored each bite, the taste of sweetness mingling with the warmth of shared moments. Crumbs found their way onto the blanket. Our laughter continued to fill the air, a testament to the joy of companionship and the magic of movie evenings.

As the day grew grey outside, the living room seemed to envelop us in a bubble of contentment. It was more than just a movie; it was a memory in the making, a cherished moment between friends. I wanted us to do it again, but I feared another movie at that time would be boring.

Then, we started talking. Laughter and stories flowed effortlessly, and the bond between us was growing.

As the sun began to set, we moved to the backyard, a serene haven where the sound of rustling leaves accompanied our conversation. Twinkling fairy lights illuminated the space, turning it into a magical retreat.

“Your dad’s not back yet,” I said.

“He should already be back by this time. Maybe something important is keeping him,” Michael gave an excuse for his father. He just wanted me to stay.
