“Stop,” I pleaded.

Annabelle giggled and slipped her phone back into her purse. “All right, all right. I’m sorry. I’m going to get out of here now so you can get ready.”

She walked over to the door, then turned back with a smirk. “And later, you’re gonna tell me every single dirty detail that transpired between you two. Every. Single. One.”

“Goodbye, Annabelle,” I said flatly.

She left in a fit of laughter as she shut the door behind her, and I was finally alone with my thoughts again. I let out a huge sigh as I thought about all the trouble Lucian had inadvertently caused me, but it also brought a smile to my face.

Though I had initially thought my ex had ruined any chance of me getting my business back on its feet, Lucian had unintentionally pulled off a marketing miracle. Now everybody would be clamoring for a bowl.

All I had to do was not screw it up.

Chapter 11

Zoe

I was so tired.

I’d never been so busy before. I lost count of how many bowls I served. My feet ached from standing all day, and my arms and shoulders were sore from working the giant pot and ladle for hours.

But I couldn’t have been happier.

Business was booming, people were loving the food, and I was appreciating every minute of it.

I’d been running the truck for eight hours already, and not long after, my ingredients had finally run out. Once I served my last bowl, I closed up shop and took a moment to bask in the momentary success.

As I sat on the edge of my food truck’s bumper, staring out at the cityscape, I admired the way the lights of the buildings glittered. It was a beautiful night, and I felt like I’d finally found my groove.

I just hoped it’d continue.

But for now, it was time to get back to my apartment for a warm bath and a long night of sleep.

After a good fifteenminutes soaking in the warm bath, I started to get antsy about what the online buzz might be. I wiped my right hand dry and reached for my phone on the counter.

“Oh shit!” I whispered upon seeing all the notifications.

The comments and posts were overwhelmingly positive, with many customers thanking me for the delicious food, and a few hoping the hot “Apron Man” would be around next time.

I smiled to myself and set my phone aside. It felt good to have things work out for once.

After the bath, I climbed into bed and thought about how much things had changed over the course of the week. Some things had been good, some bad, but for the time being, the scales seemed to be tipping in my favor.

And I had Lucian to thank for that.

I wondered if he was thinking about me too. I had never been so attracted to someone before, so smitten, so… turned on. It was hard to believe we’d only just met.

It felt like I’d known him my entire life, like we were destined to have our paths cross.

I wondered if I should text him. He didn’t seem to be the most technologically gifted, which was perfectly fine by me, considering everything else he was good at. Still, was it a bad signal that he hadn’t texted me yet?

Then again, I hadn’t texted him either. I hadn’t had a free minute until I had arrived home. I figured with his work, he was probably similarly swamped.

So I sent a simple text.

“Hey.”

He responded almost immediately. “Hey. How’d it go today?”
