“I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks again,” I said and hurried out the door. Taking a deep breath, I held tight to the envelope and hurried to the building I’d been working at the past week. It was coming along pretty well. I’d stocked it with what we’d need to start and had tested the ovens and other appliances that were there. So far, everything had worked. I’d also had a friend paint the name of our business above the front counter and was thankful this wasn’t a street Eli frequented because there was no way he’d miss it.

I stood at the front and looked at the area. It had been a blank state, but now it had a little of both Eli and me here. I hoped he’d see that when he noticed not only the name P.M. Kisses, but also the little touches that reminded me of him, including the specialty containers and wrapping paper we could use for special orders.

Jiggling the knob, I made sure it was locked before I walked out to my car. I was surprised Eli hadn’t questioned me driving more this week. Most weeks my car only left the house if I had a big order to deliver, or if it was snowing, but with it being a holiday week it gave me lots of reasons to drive. When I pulled up to the house, I was surprised to find Eli’s car already there. He normally worked later unless they were slow, which I doubted.

“There you are,” Eli said as I walked in. “What time did you want to leave tomorrow?”

“Did you get tickets to a show?” I asked. We’d talked about it, but I’d been so distracted with everything going on that I wasn’t sure if he’d taken care of it or if I was supposed to.

“Yes. I chose a magic show. I hope you don’t mind, there wasn’t much to choose from.” He looked at me, obviously expecting disappointment but I kissed him and held him at arm’s length.

“That sounds great. I’ve never been to a big magic show. One of my customers said we should be able to find a hotel as long as we’re not too picky.”

He grinned then and pulled me into his arms. “I’m not picky. As long as there’s no bedbugs, I’ll be a happy man.”

“I didn’t think about that. Maybe we should just go and not worry about a hotel unless we have to. We could always go to the show and drive back home.” But then I remembered how he’d planned our first date, and how special it was. He put so much time and effort into it and here I was worried about having to sleep in a crappy hotel. “Honestly, it doesn’t matter where we stay, as long as we get to spend some time together. I’m really looking forward to it.” I pulled him closer and pressed my groin to his, and wondered how he made me want him every minute of every day.

“So, I was thinking, maybe tonight we can order out? I mean if you want to,” Eli said, and swayed us both back and forth.

“How about we order it and tell them to deliver in an hour?” I suggested.

“Why would we—you have the best ideas.” Eli pulled out his phone without letting go of me while I kissed his neck and did everything I could to distract him.

“How does Chinese food sound?” he breathed out while trying to scroll the delivery app. “Randy, right now I’m ready to give up eating completely as long as you keep doing to me what you’re doing.”

I leaned back enough to meet his eyes and the fire I saw there drove my own desire. “Place the order and tell them when to deliver. That way I can fuck you before they get here, and once we’re done working up an appetite we won’t have to cook.”

He grunted without meeting my eyes and never asked me what I wanted before he placed the order, paid for it, and tossed his phone on the kitchen counter. “The next sixty minutes you’re mine,” he growled as he dragged me to the bedroom and shoved me on the bed.

“Sorry, you can fuck me later, but right now I need you,” Eli said as he pulled my jeans off and proceeded to swallow me down before I had a chance to think about protesting.

Sixteen

Eli

Just like every other holiday, work was crazy today. It felt like every person in town had waited until the last minute to think about Valentine’s Day and now half of them decided the gift shop was the perfect place to buy their gift. Aunt Carol was thrilled, but after skipping lunch and it being nonstop busy, I was more than ready to leave when we were finally closing.

“Sorry, Eli, I know you were hoping to leave early for your big plans,” Aunt Carol said as we were tidying up.

“It’s okay. I reserved everything, and we have plenty of time to get there. Then once we’re at the hotel we can both relax.”

“Well make sure you do and have fun tomorrow.” She’d given me the day off a while back and I took advantage by booking us a tram ride in the morning for breakfast at the top.

“I will, see you day after tomorrow.” Hurrying out the door, I didn’t stop until I was pulling up to the house. Randy’s car was there, and I hoped he was as ready as I was to get out of town. I walked inside to find the overnight bag I’d packed waiting by the door. “Randy?”

“Back here,” he yelled from his office, and I walked down the hall to find him. “I was just finishing up a few orders. Are you ready to go?”

“More than I could ever say.” I kissed his cheek and once he was finished, he picked up his bag I’d told him to pack “just in case” as we walked out to the living room and my stomach roiled with nerves.

“Let’s go then,” Randy said. “I’m starving, what do you think of getting something to eat on the way?”

I thought of all the food I’d packed for us to snack on and the dinner reservations for later. But I didn’t want to spoil the surprise. “How about we take some snacks?”

“That sounds perfect.” Randy gathered up some chips and other things we had at the house, and a handful of cookies because there was no way we’d be the only people not eating our wonderful cookies today. Both of us hurried out to my car and grinned at each other like two kids about to get away with something good. “I love you, Eli,” Randy said, and kissed me gently as he leaned over the center console.

My heart clenched, and I was so glad I’d planned this surprise. He wasn’t expecting it at all, and I knew he’d love it. We drove along the freeway a short distance until we came to the turnoff for Tahoe. This road was a little narrower, and a lot curvier, but we had plenty of time, so we snacked, laughed, and sang along to songs on the radio. “We need to do more road trips. This is fun.”

“I agree. As long as I don’t have to drive, I’m willing to be your co-captain, and we can go wherever you choose.”
