"Yeah, I am." He swats me on the ass. "Don't make me remind you in front of my brothers how much you fucking love it."

I bite my cheek to keep from moaning. He's right. I do love it. I love him. Like crazy.

Rulie and Gloria Bonus Scene

ALifetimeAgo

"Gloria, your man is here again."

"Shoot," I whisper, spinning on my aching feet to peek through the order window separating the kitchen from the rest of the diner where I work. Sure enough, the same handsome stranger in the biker vest who left me a fifty-dollar tip for a piece of pie yesterday is back.

He's attractive as all get out, I'll give him that. He's built like a bear, with dark hair and eyes the color of whiskey. His voice sounds like whiskey too.

I quickly pat down my hair and straighten my apron before bustling out to take his order.

"Rulie," I say, proud when my voice doesn't shake. Lord, but he's handsome.

"Hey, darlin'." Those whiskey eyes run over me, a little wilder than they should be. "You're a sight for sore eyes."

I snort. "I've got grease up to my elbows, coffee stains on my apron, and ketchup smeared down the side of my skirt."

"And you're still prettier than anything I've set eyes on all day," he rumbles, grinning at me.

The man is charming. I've been working at the diner for two years. He isn’t the first who's tried to charm me. But he's the only one who makes my heart flutter when he does it.

There's just something about him that I can't seem to shake. I've tried putting the man out of my mind, but he's lodged there and stubbornly refuses to budge.

"What can I get you today?" I point my pencil at him. "And it best be more than a piece of pie to cover that ridiculous tip you left me yesterday. Fifty dollars, Rulie? Honestly. You've lost your mind."

"You're worth every penny, darlin'."

I huff at him, which only makes him grin again.

"How about a turkey sandwich for now," he says. "And a date for later?"

"That's not on the menu."

"The turkey or the date?"

I narrow my eyes on him.

"You're beautiful when you're out of sorts." He slides his rough hand across the counter, placing it over mine. As soon as he touches me, my system lights up like fireworks. "One date, sweetheart. If you decide you never want to see me again, I'll kick rocks. What do you say?"

"One date?" I ask doubtfully. I might not know him well, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of man who gives up easy. He's been coming in here every day for the last two weeks, flirting with me.

I figure a man like him only does something like that if he's serious. That's what worries me. The possibility that he's serious. I've never dated much, and Rulie Davis could easily break my heart.

Or he could be the greatest adventure of your life, a little voice whispers.

Isn't that what I've always wanted? Adventure and someone to share it with? A lifetime of memories? The world is a big place, with a million things to see and do. I'm ready to experience all of them. There's plenty of time to raise a family later if that's what the future holds.

Rulie Davis is an adventure, I feel it in my bones.

"One date," he says, his eyes locked on mine. "Unless you're ready to go on down to the courthouse right now to make an honest man out of me."

Oh.

Oh, my.
