“Then, I guess we’ll see you there,” Trey says, snapping my brain back to the present. His smile drips sex. Link stays quiet and looks back down at his book with a pained expression.

“Sure,” I say, giving Trey an encouraging, albeit fake, smile.

“For fuck’s sake, you two just need to fuck and make up,” Brantley says, his eyes bouncing between me and Link. “It’s truly painful to watch you both pretend to ignore each other.”

Lincoln looks up at Brantley sharply and slams his book closed, then stuffs it into his backpack. “See you guys later,” he grinds out through clenched teeth. He stands and storms out of the dining hall.

I sigh, watching him leave. Even angry he looks so fucking hot, especially walking away.

Brantley looks over at me apologetically. “Sorry.”

I shrug. “You’re not wrong.”

“Did I hear you two talking about hockey when you walked up?” Trey asks, changing the subject.

“Oh, uhh…” I glance at Fi and then smirk at Brantley.

Fiona gives me a warning look. “We just saw Matt in the hall, and I was commenting that it’s too bad that prick ruined hockey for us this year,” Fi says smoothly before I can tease her anymore about Brantley.

Trey stiffens. “You were with Matt?”

I cringe. “He was just asking me which movies we’re showing right now. No biggie.”

Trey looks at me doubtfully.

Brantley looks confused. “What’s your beef with Johnson, anyway?”

“He’s my ex,” I mumble.

Brantley snorts a laugh. “Well, you dodged a bullet with that one.”

“I agree. But what do you mean?”

“Well, I’m sure you heard about the girl that accused him of rape earlier this year.”

“Yeah, but the school board dismissed it, right?”

“They did, but two other girls have been talking about him, too—they’re just afraid to come forward now. Mason and I tried to talk to Coach about it last week, but he said it was just rumors.” Brantley blows out a breath. “Honestly, I want to get to the Frozen Four as much as anyone on the team, but Johnson gives me the creeps. And, he’s gotten so aggressive at practice. He’s losing his shit at everyone. He cross-checked a poor freshman right into the wall yesterday. It’s a huge bummer.”

I glance at Trey, and he looks worried.

“I wish I had known he was your ex, Charlie. Why am I always the last one to know these things?” Brantley complains.

Trey raises an eyebrow. “Maybe because you’re this school’s Gossip Girl?”

“Your sarcasm is hurtful, bro,” he says, clutching his chest.

Trey just shrugs and turns to me protectively, pressing his lips firmly to mine. His tongue immediately begs for entry, and Ikiss him back eagerly, the buzz of the dining hall fading away as I lose myself in him.

“Ugh, gag,” Fiona says. “You two are nauseating.”

Trey pulls back and throws his arm around me, tugging me close. “Don’t be jealous, Flowers. It’s not a good look.”

“Ha! Really funny, Walker,” she says, rolling her eyes. “The only thing I’m jealous of is all the dick Charlie gets these days—I could use a good dicking.”

“For fuck’s sake, Fi,” I murmur, a warm blush flooding my cheeks.

Finished with our meals, we all rise from the table and head out of the dining hall.
