“I can help with that,” Brantley says with a wide grin.

“In your dreams, Michaels,” Fi calls over her shoulder.

“She has no idea,” he whispers so only Trey and I can hear, and I smile because it’s nice to feel like a normal college student for once.

CHAPTER FORTY

LINCOLN

Ican’t get Charlie out of my head. I’m ready to talk to her; I just don’t know what to say. Instead, I’ve done the only thing I can do to stay sane—I’ve been stalking her. But not like I used to. I don’t want her to see me this time. I just want to know she’s safe and happy. So I started charming her best friend so I could keep tabs on her.

I take the stairs after I enter the Raven Building, careful to avoid the elevator so I don’t run into Charlie, and I peek around the door before slinking down the hallway to Flowers’s dorm room.

I knock, and it takes Flowers only a second before she answers. I give my her best friendly smile.

“Ugh, Lincoln, c’mon, you’re killing me.” She looks around the hallway and then hauls me into her room by the front of my shirt.

“Nice to see you, too, Flowers,” I say dryly, smoothing invisible wrinkles from the front of my hoodie.

“You can’t just show up here,” she says, placing her hands on her hips. “Charlie could come by any minute. We’re about to go hang out with...”

“With who?” I ask.

“None of your business,” she sasses.

“Flowers…,” I warn, giving her a stern look.

She sighs, running a hand through her auburn hair. “Fine, we’re meeting Serenity, okay?”

I lower my brows. “Seren? Are you guys friends now?”

“Maybe? She asked us to get coffee.” Flowers shrugs. ”I think she’s reaching out because it turns out that those plastic girls that follow her around aren’t actually her friends.”

“Shocking,” I reply sarcastically. “I told her years ago that Lisa was fake as hell.”

Flowers huffs. “I’m still not sure I trust her after how she treated Charlie at the start of the year.”

I look away, rubbing the back of my neck. “Honestly, that’s probably my fault. She’s my friend, and I think my mean-boy attitude brought out her inner Regina George.”

She laughs. “Fair point. I guess Charlie gave you a second chance too. She’s way too nice for the shitty people in this world.” Her phone buzzes, and she holds it up, reading the text.

Charlie

You ready?

Flowers gives me a hard glare and then pulls her phone back and turns for privacy, but I’m so much taller than her, I can still see the screen over her shoulder.

Give me ten minutes. Hair crisis, plus I need to take out the trash.

Flowers snickers at her reply, and I roll my eyes. “Really? Am I supposed to be the trash in this scenario? I’m wounded,” I snark.

She glances back at me, giving me a solid smack in the abs, and actually turns away from me to finish the text conversation.

“She’ll be here in ten minutes, Evans. Time for you to go.”

“Fine, but you’ll text me if you guys go out somewhere tonight?”

“Sure, whatever.” Flowers sighs and looks up at me meaningfully. “She’s not happy without you, Link, and she’s not better off. I suggest you stop being a martyr.”
