“Oh, tomorrow or the next day. Just depends.”

She eyed me, stepping closer. “On what?”

“Whether Cash still needs my help.”

She nodded and let out a wistful sigh. “I have a confession.”

“You’re falling madly in love with me?”

She laughed, rolling her eyes. “No, but I might have been wrong about you.”

I smiled to myself as she handed me the third string of lights she had untangled. “How so?”

“You’re not as much of a grump as I thought.”

I laughed, nodding. “Progress. I’ll take it. I have a confession, too.”

Her eyes lit up. “You’re going to steal Foxy from me in the middle of the night?”

“Hardly.” I turned to look at Daisy bending over the box in the coziness of her home, and I couldn’t help but feel a pang of longing. It felt so… easy around her, even when I’d invited myself over to help decorate her tree.

But why wouldn’t it? I was just an acquaintance helping her out with something.

“Spill it. What do you have to confess to me? You’re married with a family?”

“Boy, you really do have the bar set low,” I teased as she handed me the last string. Her hands brushed against mine, and a current ran through us. She looked away, and I knew she’d felt it, too. “My confession is that Millie stopped by my house this morning and told me to lighten up around you.”

Her brows knitted together with a smirk. “Yeah?”

“So, I’ve been picturing you as one of my brothers sans the beard.”

Daisy laughed, and it was the best sound in the world.

“We should probably stop talking and unpack what that really means, but I can’t help but think the Sunshine Breakfast Club has set its sights on us.”

I laughed.

“Well, Millie stopped by before I delivered your fudge.”

“Really?”

I nodded. “And she gave me a piece of advice, too.”

“Which was what?”

She blushed and tugged on her sweater, but it didn’t budge. “She told me to wear this sweater.”

I grinned, nodding. “Well, she wasn’t wrong. You look sensational.”

Her gaze lifted to mine. “You think?”

“Yeah. Although I’m pretty sure you could put a bag over your body and still look like someone I’d want to…” I stopped, and her eyes flashed to mine with a glimmer.

“Someone you’d…?” she continued.

I laughed. “Nothing.”

She wandered over to the opened box and pulled out a tray of ornaments.
