I thanked him and got out of the car as quickly as I could before I got sick.

By the time I went inside the cabin, my stomach had squeezed out all the cereal it could, and I moved slowly over to the couch and spread out.

It was just a picture, so I didn’t know why my body was reacting this way.

But it was a picture with Lucas.

And he didn’t mention anything.

Hadn’t mentioned anything.

Wasn’t that something you mentioned?

I turned on my side and closed my eyes.

Between the exhaustion, the photos, the confusion, and the jealousy rearing its ugly head, I needed to sleep desperately.

But I also needed to know what the heck was going on?

There was no way this photo could be real, yet here it was on my phone, sent by a woman who shouldn’t even have my number.

I held my phone and brought in a deep breath, trying to figure out what to say. No words would come.

For once in my life, I couldn’t think of a thing to say. Tears unexpectedly filled my eyes as I turned on my back and stared at the wood-planked ceiling. The rustic ceiling fan dangled over me, putting me in a dizzy spell of regret.

The thing I needed most from Lucas was trust.

I clenched my eyes shut and felt the tears rolling down my cheeks.

This was ridiculous.

It had to be a lack of sleep toying with my mind.

He didn’t do anything.

I wiped away my tears as sadness traded for anger. If he thought for a second that he wasn’t going to get caught, it was better I found out now.

I blinked my eyes open and groaned, remembering back to when Lucas got jealous of Ethan.

Totally different circumstances.

But it still happened.

The difference here was that Ethan was my transportation and completely uninteresting to me.

Clara and Lucas had been an item. Despite what he’d said, there had to have been something at some point that attracted him.

The nausea slowly drifted away, and I sat up on the couch, lifting the phone to text.

When were you with Clara?

He wrote back immediately.

Let me call you.

I texted back.

Just tell me.
