By the time I pulled up to Baubles and Curiosities, I was totally amped up and completely worried about what she’d done or said to Emily when she’d stopped by.

And I was madder at myself for not turning off location services, but who would actually try to follow me?

The whole thing just boggled my mind.

I glanced up at the entrance of Baubles and Curiosities to see the door open and Rick step outside. His smile was as wide as the Cheshire Cat’s as he stepped onto the sidewalk with Emily. She looked into his eyes and laughed.

Fear arose deep and raw when I looked at her with another man.

Would she be happier with someone else?

It looked easy between those two.

But with me?

I shook my head.

My past was catching up with me in more ways than one, and all I wanted was for the one girl I’d fallen helplessly in love with to fall too.

The things we’d shared with one another and felt weren’t…

It wasn’t in my head.

We had something special.

I did a light tap on my horn despite my best efforts to contain myself. I wasn’t a jealous person, but this was agonizing.

She looked over and smiled with a quick wave as Rick nodded and made his way down the sidewalk.

Emily wandered over, carrying a pink porcelain poodle with her, and I couldn’t help but laugh when she opened the door.

“What the heck is that thing? Didn’t you just put it out on the floor awhile back?”

“Funny you should ask.” She slid into the front seat and shut the door.

“Your girlfriend—”

“I don’t have a girlfriend,” I interrupted. “You made that clear.”

“Fine. Your ex-girlfriend tried to buy it, and she doesn’t deserve it. So, I’m putting it in my bedroom until she gets off the island.”

“I see.” I pulled onto the main road and snuck a look at Emily.

So, she was bothered by Clara’s sudden appearance. I tapped the wheel to the music playing as we drove through town to the pizza place.

Maybe she did have feelings for me.

“Rick just hanging out?” I asked.

She turned to me and eyed me carefully. “Would it matter?”

I shrugged.

“Why do you have so many women following you on social media?” I could feel her frown on me.

“What are you talking about?”

“My brother pointed out that most of your interaction is with females, and he said your DMs are probably blowing up too.”
