“Has Amelia ever said anything?”

James walked toward the kitchen. “About what?” He kept his gaze forward and scratched the back of his head.

I could tell he was avoiding eye contact, which I took as a good sign.

Maybe Emily had talked to her sister about me.

But then, why wouldn’t my cousin tell me?

Unless what Emily said wasn’t good.

I grabbed my empty coffee mug and made my way to the kitchen as James poured himself another cup.

Waiting until James looked at me, I shoved my mug toward him to pour me some more coffee. “About me?”

James groaned. “I hate being in the middle.”

“You’re not in the middle. It’s not like I’m asking you to set us up. We’re already friends. We text daily. We hang out. I’m just hoping to find out if she’s ever dropped a hint to her sister about me.”

James poured coffee into my mug and sighed. “She’s mentioned you a time or two. Mostly, when you two first met. She hasn’t said anything recently.”

“And?” I raised my full mug.

“She said you were infuriatingly handsome but not boyfriend material.”

My shoulders slumped in defeat, and I put my mug down.

James grimaced, patting my shoulder. “I’m sure she’s changed her mind.”

I chuckled and shook my head, picking up my mug. “No. That’s still very much the vibe I’m getting.”

“Don’t ask me things if you don’t want the answer.” He clanked his mug with mine.

“I’ll remember that. Besides, I think I can change her mind.”

“That’s the spirit. Just wear her down until she’s exhausted.”

“Exactly.” I pointed at him with my index finger and took a sip of my coffee.

“I do think you might want to tell her how you got those tickets, though. Just sayin’.”

I sucked in a breath and let it out slowly, knowing he was right. “I will. When the time is right.” I glanced at my phone. “I should get going, though.”

“Oh, and thanks for babysitting Henry last night.”

“Of course.” I smiled, thinking back to Henry. He was a fun kid. “You know I’ll drop everything for him.”

“Does Emily you were watching him last night?”

“No. She thinks I had a date.”

James chuckled. “Does she think that every time you watch him?”

I shot him a wry grin. “Possibly.”

“No wonder she thinks you’re a player.”

“Come to find out, I’m just a really good babysitter.”
