“It won’t be hard to get over the line with that one, ha!” Christy guffawed. “Just imagine, all those muscles, picking you up and throwing you around, holding you down and making you his,” she sighed dreamily.

Rebelle tried to picture it but immediately squeezed her eyes shut, not liking the image. “I don’t think I could ever relax enough to let a man take control like that again and lead the way.”

“So then why don’t you take control? You lead the way. You could own exactly what happens, when and how,” Justine said.

Rebelle mulled it over and the idea appealed to her. To have him athermercy was much more alluring than the other way around.

“I think she likes that,” Taylor whispered.

Rebelle felt her cheeks heating again and she turned away from them.

“Can you give us a minute?” Justine asked. The other two nodded and left the office, Taylor pausing. “We need to hang out together more,” she added before closing the door.

“I’m sorry if that was a lot,” Justine said.

Rebelle nodded. “It was, but not necessarily in a bad way.”

“I’ll give you a few minutes but obviously if you need anything then please know, we’re all here for you, but I’m also here in a professional capacity as well as a friend.”

Rebelle smiled softly. “I know, thank you.”

“Look at that, girl. Another smile!” Justine squealed and Rebelle shook her head, trying to stop a laugh from slipping out.

Justine left the office and after a few moments, Rebelle collected herself then she left too.

She headed back into the bar, trying to avoid looking at Will but he made it hard by seeking her out. “Is everything okay? You kinda ran away earlier?”

She nodded sharply. “Fine, everything’s fine.”

“You want me to give you a ride home?” he offered.

Home. Not the shelter, it was now home.

She opened her mouth to decline but honestly, her feet were hurting, and the walk back would be hell on them. “Sure.”

He blinked in surprise. “Great, I’ll be outside, just come out when you’re ready.”

When she closed up with Taylor, Beau was outside waiting for the redhead. Taylor winked at her and then they left. Rebelle headed over to Will who was leaning against his car, head tilted back and staring at the stars. The column of his throat exposing creamy skin to the moonlight. She wanted to trace it with her tongue. She gasped at the thought, turning the sound into words to disguise it.

“How much have you had to drink?” she asked.

He levelled a look at her. “I’ve had one drink, Officer Belle,” he teased.

She pursed her lips, he’d used that damn nickname again.

“Your chariot awaits,” he said, unlocking the car and holding the passenger door open for her. She slipped around him, trying not to touch him and felt the cool leather of the seat kiss the backs of her bare thighs. He started the car and loud rock music blared from the complicated looking stereo; he turned it down, apologizing.

They drove back to the shelter in silence, Rebelle shooting him curious glances on the way, wondering what it would be like to kiss him, to touch him, until she was a mess inside. When they pulled up outside her home, he got out and ran around the car to open the door for her. He offered her his hand and she was readyto dismiss it but instead, she took it, skimming her palm against his and he made that humming noise again.

They stood outside the door, and she didn’t know where it came from but there was an air of expectation surrounding them. Heavy and urgent and she didn’t know what to do with it, only that wasn’t ready to say goodbye to him yet.

“Do you want to come in and see Parfait?” she mumbled.

He smiled, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth and rubbing one hand along his jaw. “Yeah, I’d like that.”

She opened the door, turning on the lights and walked into her bedroom with him trailing behind her.

“Hello, gorgeous,” he fussed, and Rebelle’s insides clenched uncomfortably. Parfait stumbled to her feet, trampling her kittens in her eagerness to get to Will. She rubbed around his thick calves and as he bent down to stroke her, she leapt up to meet him. Rebelle fought an eyeroll at how he managed to charm practically every female he encountered. You included…
