“The captain would say it was hiding a ‘fierce soul itchin’ for a fight’.”

“Your captain sounds like a therapist or psychologist…”

“Nahhh… the captain has always been our captain,” the man said proudly. “He’s always taken care of his team.”

“Just go away… please,” she said quietly, looking back down at her hands that rested on her knees in the sand – only to see the prosthetic appear, alongside a leather flip flop.

“See? There’s the problem.”

“What’s that?” she said, slowly looking up – only to have a bag pulled down over her head as someone grabbed her arms, tying them around her back painfully as she was jerked to her feet.

“Get the ankles!”

“What are you doing?” Calista growled, trying to yank her hands away and free herself. Hands were everywhere, tying her up, and then hefting her upwards onto a set of shoulders like she was nothing.

“Well, missus… we are following orders.”

“Who’s orders? What orders?”

“The captain – haven’t you been listening? You’ve just beenKidd-napped…”

CALISTA

Kidnapped?

Calista felt herself being jumbled and jostled around painfully as they obviously made a break for the getaway vehicle… except she heard water. Her beachfront house, the running, were they headed towards a boat?

“Wait!” she hollered nervously. “I hear water…”

“Yeah?”

“Well, I really don’t want to be anywhere near water if my hands and feet are tied. Drowning is a real fear of mine… unless…”

Her mind seized in that moment as she realized that she had no clue what their intent was when they kidnapped her. Were they planning on drowning her? Getting rid of the body? Were her pirate thieves intent on making her being food for the fishies?

“Oh my gosh… you aren’t planning on killing me – are you?” she whispered, and began to struggle desperately, nearly getting herself dropped in the process – only to feel herself plop down painfully on something hard.

“Quit wiggling or you’ll capsize us…”

“Let me go so I have a fighting chance at swimming if we are on the water!”

“We can’t… captain’s orders.”

“This is so stupid! Why are you blindly obeying someone and not using your heads? Would you want to be in the ocean with your hands tied behind your backs?”

“I ain’t got both hands…”

“A hand and a hook then! Heaven help me,” she muttered aloud in sheer frustration and frightened desperation. “Just uncover my head, because I’ve already seen you three and can identify you.”

“You don’t know our names.”

“You’ve been talking to each other – and I have ears. One of you is Shepherd, there’s a Jared, and…”

“I’m Bo,” a voice boasted proudly with zero guile. These were the worst kidnappers in the world. How did she happen to fall into this mess?

“There, there,” a voice said gently, and patted her on the back. “We aren’t going to sink, and we’ll be at the ship soon.”
