“Not really.” He laughed. “But now we have even more to celebrate.”

“Wecouldcelebrate at home… or in our bed…” I gave him a little shimmy

“I’ll call the restaurant,” he promised. “You… stay right where you are. I want to peel that dress off of you.” He pointed at the bed.

“Yes,husband,” I agreed, a rush of excitement flowing through me. I’d gladly do anything he asked me.

He groaned. “You’re killing me, Ell.”

I smiled, thinking of a baby that looked like him, his tiny nose. His beautiful brown eyes. Maybe she’d have my hair.

Either way, they’d be ours.

Cam wrapped his arms around me as he came back into the room, swaying us slowly back and forth, and I repeated his question from all those nights ago. “Are you happy?”

He chuckled into my hair. “Baby, you’ve made me the happiest man alive. I’ve got a good job, an amazing wife—who has the coolest job, thank you very much—and now we’re having a baby. What else could I want?”

I hummed in response, turning around in his arms to rest my head against his chest.

“Tell me something,” he whispered the words I’d uttered the night we met. All these years later, and we still used them often. “Something real.”

“I love you,” I said, sliding my hand over my stomach. “And I think I love them already.”

“Me too,” Cam agreed, nuzzling my forehead. “I love you so much.”

Suddenly, I knew exactly what my first purchase would be.

A tiny pair of shoes.

After all, one pair of shoes changed my life.

And they lived Happily Ever After…

The End.
