I ordered, surprised when he did the same, following behind me and taking my plate, balancing both on his tray before he headed over to the coke machine, filling up a cup for himself.

The commons was bustling with other students in a rush to eat, crowding around the grill to place orders. Even though it was the weekend, mealtimes were still busy here, especially considering most students lived on campus or right nearby. I didn’t have a meal plan anymore, since the sorority house was off-campus, but even I still grabbed a bite here quite a bit since it was convenient.

And I liked that it was so easy to run into friends here—even if sometimes all I wanted was to hide in my own quiet bubble. I waved to my friend Gus who sat on the other side of my room. We had a lot of classes together, and he’d helped me a lot on coming up with ideas for designs. I wondered what he’d think about seeing us together, and then blushed at the thought.

Because we weren’ttogether.Not like that.

He held out a cup for me as I looked back. “Want anything?”

“Oh. Um…” I pretended to look at the options, even though I always got the same thing. “Raspberry Fanta, please.” Thank goodness for Coke Freestyle machines. I’d drink Orange Fanta when there was nothing else, but I definitely preferred the Raspberry. The blue Berry flavor was good too, but I didn’t find that very often.

He chuckled to himself as he filled the cup, handing it to me and then making our way to the register, where he grabbed a brownie and a cookie. I raised an eyebrow, but he just gave me a small smile.

The girl read off our total, and Cameron handed her his card.

“Wait,” I said, waving my hands. “You don’t have to pay for me.”

“It’s fine,” he insisted. “This was my idea, so I should pay.”

I sighed, giving in too easily. “Fine.”

Leading us to a booth in the empty corner of the restaurant, Cameron slid into one side, the tray with our food in front of us. Neither of us said a word, just digging into our pasta.

I sighed in happiness as the flavor burst onto my tongue. “I love this place,” I almost moaned around my bite. So many college cafeterias had sub-par, flavorless food, but practically everything here was delicious. “So good,” I said, shoveling another bite into my mouth.

When I looked up, he had an amused look on his face, watching me eat. I took a drink of my Fanta, trying to ignore the heat rising to my face. What was it with me and embarrassing myself around this guy?

When we’d finished eating, I slid my bowl to the side, pulling out my phone and setting it down in front of me. “Okay. So.”

“So,” he responded, doing the same with his food.

“Guess we should sync our calendars, huh?” Cameron quirked an eyebrow at my comment, and I fumbled with my next statement. “For the… sorority and fraternity events?”

“Right. That’s what I thought you meant.” He nodded, and I gave him a weird look. What else would I mean?

“Maybe we could plan a bonding event?” I bit my lip. “My sister’s the social chair, so I’m sure she could come up with something with your guy?—”

“Oh, no, Princess.” He flashed his teeth in a grin that definitely wasn’t going straight to my core. “If we’re going to win, it has to be entirely planned by our group. No sharing.”

I furrowed a brow. “That’s not fair. Do you know how muchIhave going on this week?” I had sketches due for my final project in my design class, and another project to finish for my history of fashion class.

He shrugged, looking nonchalant. “That’s our deal.”

It only seemed fair that we each contributed one event, but I hated when he pulled the logic out on me. Reminding me that this was a competition. That he was the enemy, and I had to take him down.

“This week, we’ve already got a community service event planned, if your guys want to come to that.”

“This service event… what are we talking here? Planting trees? Helping at the soup kitchen? Volunteering at the food bank?”

“Trees.” I made a noise with my lips. “What are we, amateurs?” I leaned in really close, beckoning him in with my fingers. When our faces were close enough that I could have pressed my lips to his with one fluid moment, I whispered, “Puppies.”

He stared at me, dumbfounded. “Puppies? That’s not fair. You’ll totally win.”

I crossed my arms over my chest, smug. “Guess you’ll have to outdo me then. And it better not be some lame toga party.”

Cameron’s lips titled up in a smile of his own. “Be careful what you wish for.”

“Whatdoyou guys have going on this week?”
