“Sutton and Forest are in the master, and the rest of us have our own rooms,” James added, like that was an important tidbit. That the rest of them would sleepalone.

I looked over at Cam and caught him staring at me, his gaze so focused and intense that I couldn’t look away. It was like he was asking with his eyes. If I wanted to share his bed, all I had to do was ask.

It was simple, really. I just had to tell him what I wanted.Him.

“Big house,” I mused, wondering where they’d found a five-bedroom house that hadn’t cost an arm and a leg to rent during this time of year.

Adam made a sound with his throat, but said nothing.

Yawning, I stretched my arms. “I think I’m gonna go freshen up, and then maybe take a nap. It was a long drive up here.”

I was tired—but also; I wanted a moment to compose myself. That was what I told myself as I found the bedroom Audrey and I would share, and slipped my coat off, hanging it on the rack before turning to my suitcase to unpack.

Or maybe that was just the excuse.

Especially when someone else slipped in the door a few moments later.

CHAPTER 21

Cam

She washere.Spending winter break with me.

After the formal, everything had been so busy between studying during dead week and finals that I didn’t even have a chance to see her. Texting her stupid little things that reminded me of her was all I could do to not feel like she was slipping away from me.

So this felt a little bit like fate, us being together for break. Even if it wasn’t planned, it was everything I could have asked for.

I thought back to when Forest had first proposed the idea, a chance to distract myself from the beautiful blonde girl I couldn’t get out of my mind.

My Halloween hook-up. The thought made me snort. If only I’d known exactly how much time I’d spend with her after that.

Still, I’d never imagined she’d be here. Even though I’d wanted to invite her, especially after the formal, I hadn’t. It felt like too much, and she hadn’t even said that she wanted to be with me.

So the idea had sat inside of me like a lead weight, pulling me down and down.

And despite all that, it was like fate had intervened, bringingme the girl in a sparkling carriage—never mind that it wasn’t pulled by horses—she was here.

“You didn’t tell me the friends that Sutton were bringing were Ella and her sister,” I whispered to Forest as we walked into the house, carrying their bags in for them. It was the least we could all do. I was a big fan of chivalry, and if I couldn’t carry my girl’s bags in for her, what was the point of all the hours I spent in the gym?

He gave me a guilty look. “It never came up.”

I shook my head. “Beginning to think you just have a selective memory when it comes to Ella.”

We headed towards the room we’d picked for Ella and Audrey. Even though if I’d have had my way, she would have been sleeping in my bed.

It was my biggest regret after the formal. That I’d stopped it before things could go further. That I hadn’t taken her back to my place afterwards. That I’d only had her in a bed once. That I’d never gotten to wake up next to her.

But I couldn’t push too hard, because I had the feeling I would lose her entirely if I did.

“Or maybe you’re the one who never asked,” Forest muttered as we set the bags down.

I sighed. “Maybe not.” Why would I have thought to?

“Either way, she’s here,” he said, patting me on the shoulder. “And now you have the chance to really woo her.”

“Woo her?” I raised an eyebrow.

My friend chuckled. “Yeah, man. Buy her flowers and shit. Girls love that. Make her dinner. Take her on anactualdate. Not that weird sorority and fraternity competition you were doing.Woo her.Show her how you feel.”
